hi all im new to the board. I was wondering if any knew if i would be able to run a t5 rake with my b21. Last year i asked my dealer if i could and he told me that it would work great. He said even thou the numbers dont match (13.5 pto hp and the needed 16hp) the b21 is a very powerful tractor. I agree with it being a powerful machine but really would like to try to get some info from someone who is not going to sell me the rake. I really like the tractor and would hate to sell it if i dont have to, but on the other hand i dont want to buy the rake and not be able run it effecintly. thanks in advance for the help

Welcome to TBN…
Don’t know where you are (soil type, rocks?)… but you should be able to get an opinion from the dealer selling the rake… He should also be willing to sell it to you with the contingency that it actually will work in your application. Personally I think you are going to be ok with that combo… but the dealer selling it ‘should’ know for sure… Post back with how it works out. Also with pictures if it works out well /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif….KennyV.

I’ll throw in a welcome to the forum also. My feeling is that you will be OK. Although the B21 is light on PTO horsepower I have to wonder from my experience if it isn’t a bit underrated. I have done a lot of brush mowing with mine and a 4 ft mower, which many would recommend 20 PTO hp for, and not run out of power. Now the 4 ft tiller at max depth will work the B21 in our heavy red Georgia clay and requires me to slow down.

How are the soil conditions in the area you work? If not extreme I would vote go for it.

Thanks for the replys.. It would be great if the dealer would work a deal out like u said, i guess it wont hurt to ask. The soil around here has a lot more rocks than clay. I should probably add that the rake would only do maybe 10-15 complete lawn jobs a year. I would use it more fixing lawns after hardcaping, landscaping, drainage jobs.. Things like that. What do u think the market is for the smaller used rakes?? Would it be easy to sell if i wasnt happy with it??

Very easy to sell it. You will be glad you tried it, and I suspect so happy with it, you won't want to sell it.

I agree that you would not have any trouble selling and also agree you will not want to. If you haven’t, do a search for harley rakes or power rakes on the forum. There have been some past posts with photo’s that show how impressive those things are for lawn prep.

Worst case scenario on the power issue would be that you need to make a first pass a little slower or with more overlap. I’m not clear on what you mean by “fixing yards” though. I think of the power rakes as seed bed prep after the rough grading has been done. They turn the soil lightly, smooth and windrow the trash to one side for pick up. That to me is starting new rather than fixing but I am most likely just misunderstanding what you are saying.

Glenmac's website for Harely rakes is harley rake . On it they suggested the PTO range for a T5 rake is 16-22hp. I suggest you email them to see what they suggest for your setup. I contacted them a while back and they advised me that my F2400 was well suited for a T5, so maybe yours is as well. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
