Although there is another thread in the Owing/Operating section, I want to start one here in the Kubota forum because I believe the differential locking specification varies not only from make to make but from model to model within a brand.

Anyway, on my B7800, my diff lock is mechanically actuated, in that it is merely engaged by a pedal depressed usually with the left heel. It does not stay down when you step on it. As such I assume that when the pedal disengages, so too does the lock on the differential.

I've read of some sticky locks as well as some electronically controlled diffs akin to 4x4 SUV type deals.

Do all the B series Kubotas work like the 7800?

My B7100 HST seems to work the way you described. The linkage was seized when I got it. A bit of oil on the bushings freed it up.

If the lock is under presuure which could be from turning or from lack of traction it will stay engaged until the pressure is released. They might not even engage right by feel if the teeth are not lined up right when first depressed but you have to remember it is manual and you will feel it.

Both my 1995 B7100 and my 1999 B2710 worked the same way and I never had a problem with the differential lock on either one.
