B 3030 will start in gear

"The rep said you can start the engine from the ground but there is a safety feature which will only allow the tractor to travel 2-3 feet before shutting down if someone were to press on the pedal"

2 to 3 feet...that's enough to do severe bodily injury...

roy, thats exactly the way mine operates and that puts it about in the middle of my chest when it shuts down for safety.

"( I should have been more precise. tractor in gear(l/m/h) with out sitting in seat, reach in and turn the key, fires up. according to manual should not kick over. if you were to step on forward/reverse pedal, will move. )"

Ummm, how would you step on the forward/reverse pedal without sitting on the seat?

So, to put myself in a dangerous situation, I have to do the following...

a. NOT set the parking brake when I last got off the tractor contrary to manual recommendations
b. left the tractor in gear when I last got off (I'll admit I usually do)
c. from the ground attempt to start the tractor (BAD IDEA ANYWAY!!!)
d. from the ground, with the tractor running, push the hydro pedal (with my hand??) with the expectation that the tractor will immediately shut-down instead of running me over. (why would i do such a stupid thing???)

Somehow I don't think I'm going to lose too much sleep worrying about this.

just as a test i stood on my mmm, reached over and put it in gear, hit the key, fired right up, pushed hst pedal with my hand and it went almost 5 feet before shutting off. if it can be screwed up, someone will. silly if it's designed this way but as long as i know it, i can deal with it. i suspect something will change soon......

On my B3030 it will shut off immediatly if the HST pedal is pushed down far enough. If I just barely push it to make the tractor creep it will not shut off. I use the HST by hand alot when hooking up the backhoe. I just always put it back in neutral when I am done moving it.
I don't imagine the safety switch comes into contact unless the pedal is really pushed on. You may be able to adjust it so it engages sooner. Although it will still start in gear.

Ok it's not safe but I have to admit that I like that very much. On my former BX23 it was very annoying to shift to neutral each and everytime I wanted to start the tractor.

jlbota gave us a good exemple. When you hook a backhoe (running on the tractor hydraulic system) you have to shut down the tractor to connect the hose and then start it again to move the backhoe in place. I do it when I'm standing beside the tractor. It's very convenient. I do it sometime to raise or lower the 3PH. On my B3030 I use the mid-gear around 80% of the time so if I can skip the "put on neutral" thing it's fine with me. I won't complain about it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I didnt know it wasn't suppose to. I'm glad it does. I like it that way. My neighbor has a John Deere and it has way to many safety switches on it. You cant get off the seat without being in neutral. I find that very anoying. I like my Kubota just the way it is. I know its not safe (so they say) but hooking up implements is much easier

In regards to you points:A (yes) bet you"ve done that B(yes)we"ve all done this(C)yes It's raining cats and dogs and your not going to sit there while it warms up (D)yes this is a stuiped thing, should mount from left, but someone won"t and step on the pedal.my point is I have owned Bobcat A220,Cat228,ASV2810,these units will not start or move unless in the seat, seat belt on,safety bar down etc, they are made as dummy proof as possible and still someone going to get hurt. This is my first tractor, and being educated on other machinery I was surprised that that they are not as refined. Hi Cart99
Picture this scenario, Your 2 yr. old grand daughter comes to visit. You, Your wife and your son are are looking at your new tractor. Your grand daughter is touching and doing oohs and aahs. She bends and reaches in and turns the key. The tractor starts and her body is only inches from touching the pedal. I lost two nights of sleep rerunning what happened in my mind before I got to speak to the dealership. Think of the liability if a stranger (youngster) were to get hurt.
On a positive note I spoke with the service manager for Kabota in Lodi Ca. He wasn't aware of there not being a neutral safety switch. He feels that there should be one, and he's going to address the issue. If I decide to keep the 3030 he's willing to put in a safety switch for me. IF I decide to go to a B7800, Kabota will replace the 1/4 inching valve with a control valve system like the B3030.
