I never even paid attention to the posts and reads.
So I'll keep on keeping on. That's what my building inspector always says. He okays something, then looks around and says,"keep on keeping on, then call me in a week or two and we'll figure out what I need to inspect".

I'm using a concrete mixture that is 1 part lime, 2 parts Portland cement, and 6 parts sand. First I stuffed in backer rod, then shot down a row of nails, then we throw in the chinking mixture. I did the first layer without color, then did a second layer with terra cotta coloring in it. Just before I put the 2nd layer on, I painted on a layer of concrete glue.







The first layer had a lot of cracks from drying too fast. So before doing the 2nd layer, I sprayed the wall with water. It wasn't really that hot when I did the first layer but I figured those old dry logs were sucking up the moisture as fast as the air was.

It worked! I have very few cracks with the second layer.

Amen draj. Wow, Jimn and Bo, as an easterner, man, I'm a bit envious of that country! We never can see that far due to humidity here. On the other hand, how is the water in your areas? I guess you have a very deep well? Visiting Arizona is definitely on me old kick the bucket list. Pull me trailer, stay a while and find somewhere to trout fish! And, look at that desert.

Mac - I too am from GA and have never been out there. The terrain looks so different out west compared to where we live. I look at the pics' that are posted here and am fascinated at the low growing tree's and lack of vegetation. Reminds me of the old westerns on tv! His critters that lurk in the area are different as well; some of which I had never seen before or even heard of. Water is certainly looked at in a different light between the regions. I had no idea that it resided that deep within the earth. I suspect that clear nights would reveal a beautiful night sky, and with looking every direction not to see a street lamp or a neighbor- would be heaven.

The area is certainly on my "bucket list" as well

Perhaps one day, I will make it out there. However with kids in college and one left in high school, it takes working every day to keep the lights on- and everyone fed. But it is a tempting offer...... Work the day, and enjoy the swing come evening. "That would be a vacation" for me.:drink:

Yesterday I chinked the South wall with the color coat. Today I did the West wall. There's a little bit of the North wall yet to go but I ran out of coloring.
Friday I had the inspector here and he signed off on the roof and chimney box, so tomorrow we will finish up the last bit of roofing.
Tuesday we should be starting the flooring!

We went ahead and started the flooring on Monday.





The rains are over, and if one does happen along, we'll just tack plastic over the doorways. We need the floor in to set the doors in. The windows are scheduled for Oct 10, so no worries there.

I had to go back to Phoenix for a couple days and "work".
I got back at noon today and Scott and a local kid just finished the roof. We had a few panels yet to put on because we were waiting for the chimney box inspection. Now the roof is totally done, including the drip edge and ridge cap. What a relief! That's a major milestone and one that I am glad is behind me.

So after lunch we went back to work on the floor. We got a rhythm going and we're moving along pretty well until we got to a ridge pole support log. It takes a while to scribe the boards to fit around the logs.
