Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump

Is there anyone who knows why my Massey 235 with Massey loader has a whole cut in the grill to accommodate an auxiliary hydraulic pump? The loader has a built in reservoir, so I am thinking it was designed to have an auxiliary pump. It just seems strange that a Massey dealer might have cut out the grille to make it fit. One person told me that this is what the dealers did. Another told me that the pumps were only put on because of failing internal pumps.

Most of the loaders with external reservoirs built into the loader frames used external pumps.
Off hand I don't recall any with a remote reservoir that used the internal pump.
I'm sure some did but I haven't seen one.
