Folks,

I am looking for a good suppier for a rear auxilary hydraulics for my L48. I don't know if I should go with a 2 or 3 spool valve set? Is there a good reason for 3? Is it worth the extra? How much should I expect to pay for this? Just need some good input. Thanks.

I used a Prince SV 3-spool valve with 2000psi relief and power beyond for my B2710. I believe it is a 16gpm max flow. That should be about the right size for your L48. I could not find anything that met the B2710 hydraulic specs that had a smaller foot print. This setup is compact enough to fit on the fender between the ROPS and the seat (after I relocated the blinker light).

I have one spool for the top link, one for the future tilt link, and one for anything else hydraulic like a snowblower chute rotator.

Thank you. I will call Kubota and see if I can get just the block you mention. I am not set up for machining and few around here are. One question. Could a tap and die work on the port or is there some reason for a weld on fitting? I may be able to fashion a tap and die system.

Will any good 3 spool work? It sure would be nice to have the hydraulics there to use. I may even look for a BH thumb? Rig up a foot peddle and power beyond fitting? Who knows? All it will do is add wieght to the tractor.

I will start looking for the parts.

You will need a 4-way 3-position open center valve, with 1, 2 or 3 spools (ususally spring loaded return to center), with a power beyond outlet. It is also recommended that the input port have a high pressure relief set at at least 2000psi. Any valve block with similar characteristics should work.

That part numbers I used for the Prince valve are:
SV115 inlet port with 2000 psi fixed relief
3 SVW1BA1 4-way double acting work ports with spring return to center (work ports blocked in neutral)
SVE22 power beyond outlet

My cost for this valve was around $215 delivered. Surplus Center has these for about $225 or so. My total cost with 3 hoses and all fittings and disconnects and the Kubota hydraulic block connector was around $450 +/-.

With the L48, the ports are right there just waiting to get quick coupled into. NO bloc needed. I installed the one on my L48 myself and it was a snap. You will get a special aluminum cap that attaches to the oil fil plug that dumps the fluid back into the well. The one I bought was all Kubota. The two quick couplers on the right rear will get used. Could not be much easier. I had a 3 spool, TnT and the third valve ran my rippers on my box scrapper or my solenoids on the Harley. I doubt I have any pictures of my set up. I'll look. Rat...

Rat,

Did you have a back hoe on your L48? If so, are those the backhoe ports you are speaking of or are there others I have not seen?

If you did have the backhoe and used those ports is there some kind of bypass coupling on these units?

I would like to here more if you would. Thanks.

I haved a Surplus Supply catalog and will look up the parts I may need.
This will be my first try at hydraulics? I am holding my breath.

It is great having all the TBN'ers out there chipping on with info and comments. Keep it coming. I will give feed back on any project that I do and how it worked----ah-------or didn't work.

Yes it is the hoe ports. Since you cannot have the toplink on while using the hoe and needing the 3 spool valve while hoeing would be less likely, they are available to you. They all quick couple so ease of removal is fast. I did not have the hoe. My needs for hoe work is rather limited so I wanted the versatility of a 3 pt hitch with the abundant power of the L48's integral loader. Mine was so strong that on bucket curl I could lift the whole rear end off the ground when my tooth bar would lodge under a root. You do flip the lever on the right rear to the hoe position as I recall but leave the main quick coupler unused and its valve in the non hoe position. What in essence you are tapping into are the hoe swing hydraulics which also run the 3 pt hitch. I have a nice well made braket for the 3 spool valve body which is much nicer then mounting it to the fender. Heres a picture on my L3830 HST I took the other day after washing 50 lbs of dirt away.

That looks like a Detroit Squid on steroids? I had no idea those things where so big on the fender. Will it interfear with the cab I intend to put on the L48?

Let me get this right? If I am using the backhoe then I can not use the auxilliary hydraulics? When the hoe is off, I tap into the main hoe lines and that is the system?

I will have to llook close before going for anything.

I am also looking at how this unit will fit with my planned seat lift/rotation idea? I know, wanting too much. Have to science it out and get it all if possible.

I gotta say, I like your approach. What ever valve you decide on will have it's location dictated by a cab. Your getting this stuff figured out. Why not just have a seat where the back is the seat and the seat is the back when it's flipped rather then rotated. It seems there are so many seats available that you could concoct something. Be aware to that those hog rings on the L48 seat rust pretty easy. I really enjoyed the power of the L48. I cannot think of another compact manufactuer with it's power. Rat.,,

It may not be good to mess with mother nature but I have done some messing with mechanical structures. A hobbyof sorts. I enjoy physics and electrical work so I started scheaming.

I just got done with looking at many valves in the Surplus Center Cat. and found many to be small enogh to work with a cab. (hope to get that by next fall) and the goofy seat thing. My daughter just reminded me how old I am when I complained about my sore feet. She even ripped on me for the seat idea? She has opperated the L35 before but has stayed away from the L48.

The original dealer I bought the unit from is faxing me info on the factory valve set.

If it works, I will have to take a picture and post it. Fair enough?

I too had trouble finding a valve block that has a small enough footprint and still had the necessary required hydraulic characteristics. Some had no provision for a power beyond sleeve, some could not have an inlet relief. Bailey sells a Danfoss 3-spool that is slightly smaller than the Prince but does not have a relief. Surplus Center has a real nice Cessna 3-spool but its max flow rate is too low. I could not find anyone who would sell a 9 gpm Dinoil valve (like RaT's) for a reasonable price. The 20+ gpm valves are huge and heavy.

So I settled for the Prince SV. The 3-spool has a footprint of approx 8" x 8". It can be configured exactly as you want. Its nominal flow of 12 gpm is a little high for what I needed but it works perfectly. Almost any hydraulic shop can get them and have them built up for under $250.

I will look up the parts you mention and speak to the techs at Surplus to get all the info on things I can.

Still waiting to here on the Kubota valve set- size, fit and so on.

It is important that it looks clean as well as function being good. Columbus was razzed for his ideas?

BTW- I am not going to try to flip the seat over like the JD110. I am trying to put a lift mechanism under it that also shifts it 6 inches to the side while lifting it. This will give the space needed to rotate the seat while sitting in it. You will not here of it agian till I try it. Just thought it would be nice to have the valve set not interfear with this idea as well as the cab.
