Friday was a bad day. After 1500 hrs on my ASV RC-100 the rear bearings in the idler hub gave way therefore loosened the track & tore off about 8 drive lugs on the inside of the track!!!! OUCH!!! Has anyone had this happen?? What all did you change, just the broken stuff or all the idlers & bearings? In this MS heat I have to stop every 20 - 30 mins to let er cool down... ERRRR:mad:

just the broken stuff or all the idlers & bearings?

I'd be doing them all , they have all done the same amount of work . Shame to tear up another track for the sake of a few hundred dollars in bearings .

It might pay operators to check and or replace the bearings every 1000 hours or so . Does it mention this in the maintenance manuals ? They are working in a dirty , harsh and often wet environment .

I think you will need to buy the whole assembly. The shaft will have rubber wheels that are in halfs and are bolted on. You should be able to use your old outside plates, bolts and nuts. The assembly is around $800.00 each

hes right, while you have it apart replace them all.its too much work disasembling all the track system not to.

Well I got a quote on the idler assembly today. OUCH!! $954.00 in stock WOW I never thought it would be that much. I am just gonna fix the idler assembly & bolt on some new drive lugs & keeper goin. Gonna have to save some more money for the rest of them when the time comes.
Does anyone know if I can get them cheaper anywhere else?
:confused2:

I'd take it to a machine shop and see if the center of the wheel can be bored out to the next bearing size . If not , it may be able to be bored out and a metal sleeve pressed in to bring it back to standard . The shaft would also be repairable if it is scored . If I was doing it at home , it would take 3-4 hours to repair . They should be able to do it quicker , so 3 or 4 hundred dollars should pull it up with bearings .

How about some photos to see if this would work in this case ?

Wow. Is that cost so high because ASV has gone to metal face seals? I know its only one perspective, but I remember talking to a guy up here in Wisconsin that works for a large powerline clearing company and he said ASV had also gone to tapered bearings. He has run the old 4810s, the RC100s and now operates a PT100 forestry machine and said the difference in the machines was like night and day. He also said his company got to run ASV's replacement for the current PT100 and it had a much more open undercarriage and better hydraulic cooling and performance.

I can't just change the bearings because the bearing failure caused the idlers to move forward & chewed up the rubber idler wheels, so all is going to need replacing!
Thanks for the feedback!!

I paid around $100 dollars less by using my end plates and bolts. Once I had one go out two more went out soon after. That machine broke my ***.

Well Ax I sent the wife to get the parts & to my understanding they just had the whole assembly anyway thats what she came home with. Now I went to put it on & the dang starter went out I guess. There is sparks comming from the inside of the starter when the key is turned, so now something else to fix before the main item!!! URGH!!!!

Where did you get the price from? I remember the one's from Pucket being the cheapest. Yep those bearings are a very common failure down here on the ASVs

Well tell you the truth I been working in the Oil Field since January for my old Boss. It is 9-5 plus 24-7 sometimes. So not so much time mulching. I need to do some jobs but the main one comes first. Know what I mean!!

I'm not sure, but these guys may be able to redo that too (custom bonding). Sometimes you gotta be creative to be frugal :)

You did the right thing buying the new one. When they go out they are shot. I know what you are going through and I hope the others stay strong. Mine had the same amount of hours when they started failing. Save your bolts, nuts and end plates.
