I have this 650 Prowler. It will turn over but will not stay crank. I have to keep priming it for it to stay crank. Once u get off the gas it will go dead. Also, the tailpipe and muffler turned cherry red while running. I put in a new spark plug and change gas with fresh gas. Has anyone experience this problem? I need some help.

I would say give your carburetor a thorough cleaning. If it runs with the pedal down, your main jet is clean & your idle jet must be plugged. Your idle jet takes over when you let off of the throttle. I have the same machine. Has it sat for any lengths of time?

Yes, it has been sitting for awhile. But what makes the muffler turn cherry red while trying to keep it running??

I'm guessing it's probably running lean. Lean running conditions will make the muffler turn red hot. Give your air filter & check & while your at it check your antifreeze.

The air filter and the housing is pretty dirty. I will try to get to cleaning carb tomorrow and let you know afterward. I appreaciate the input.

Your welcome. Good luck with the cleaning, just take your time and do everything right the first time. It's a lot easier than doing it twice :)

As suggested, your carb probably needs cleaning, and clean the air filter good and the box also. Also check to see if yours has a square black panel, about 4"X 6" back of the frame where the back of the seat sets. If so take this small panel off and (one on each side) and I think you will find a air filter there also. I am not sure if the 650 has it but the 700 does. (or mine does) I had a 650 and I dont remember seeing it, so look.

I have cleaned the carb out but it is still turning the tailpipe red. I cleaned the air filter and the housing out.

I am going to ask a dumb question. I assume you have checked the water and does the fan kick on?

Does this have any mods? Did you put in a jet kit? When was the last time you did a valve adjustment (if the manual states it requires one as standard maintenance procedures). I hear of this happening when someone puts a new jet in that allows too much fuel. Also make sure your exhaust is not clogged.

Does the plug look okay?

No I didn't put new jets in it. I just cleaned them out. It has a new spark plug in it.

Ju st trying to get your problem solved. I had a 650 (sold it last week, got a 700) but never had this type of problem. Have you removed your fuel line at the carb and cranked it over to see that it is getting a good supply of fuel. (make sure you have a bottle or something to catch fuel in, dont want a fire) . If you are still getting a good flow of fuel, I would go back and make sure those jets are clean. I had a Kuzma UTV once and I had the carb off three or four times and just couldnt get it to run. Had cleaned it and used compressed air to blow it out. Finally took a strand of very fine wire and worked it through the jets. I think one of them was removable but one was a pressed in one. That solved my problem. Also I dont know if you have found it or not, (hard to locate) but on the side of the carb is a small lever that you can work to self prime it. Try working this lever when you are trying to get it to run. Keep us posted as to what you find and if someone on here cant get you straightned out you can do a Google search of "Artic Cat Fourms". I think there are 3 of them and some pretty knowlegable people on there. Might take a while for some one to responed though.
