Apple computers

I have nothing against Apple anything, I have to use an IPhone for work and it does it's job.
Reason I refuse to use Apple anything at home is that everything is proprietary.
I bought an Apple streaming box for my tv when my Roku box went south. Had it plugged in, turned on and then I got the prompt "Sign in with your Apple ID" no way to use it without creating an Apple account, packed it back up and returned it for another Roku box. Even my work phone, you have to sign up with ITunes to use the **** thing....a work phone for craps sake, I wouldn't have bothered except I had no choice......Mike

Use for technical searches and surfing. It's sort of my personal reference library. No word processing or DCX or that; just technical searches and reference off the internet.

If you're basically just using a web browser, then I don't see how a different operating system would impact you that much.

The last time I checked (quite a while ago) a MAC cost about twice a much as a Windows PC with similar processor, memory, and hard drive.

IMO, the solid state hard drives are the biggest game changers for PC performance in recent years. Since it also removes the moving parts from the hard drive component, I would expect it to also impact lifespan.

I'm using the iMac Retina 5K, 27 w/ 16GB 2400 MHz - it's about 18 months old - replaced another iMac27 that I had purchased in 2010 - for computers they are high cost this one was a little over 3K, but to me well worth it - I have a Dell lap top for work issued by the Company - I used Apple for many years - they are dependable with excellent support - they seem to be very secure - they have their issues good / bad - mine has a problem with pop ups - it does not allow them, i even have issues with this forum when an ad pops up I have to re launch - an irritant but with todays hackers I guess worth living with - their screen clarity is outstanding - the speed is three times as fast as my Dell -with the new software I can run windows programs in the windows mode without issue - the quality has always been top shelf, I've never had an issue with a key board, pad, mouse, the cloud transfer works without issue, printing is quick, program launch is instant - they just work - guess I'm sold on them!!!!

If all you need is web browsing, you might consider a Chromebook. You can get respectable performance for $300. There are some limitations for running other software, but the newer ones will run Android apps too. The really cheap ones do tend to be a little slow, but mostly they tend to have inferior screens, so check that.

About 10 years ago we moved to all MACs in the house. Best thing we ever did! My computer support time for the wife and kids went down about 500%. They work, they update themselves and VERY rarely ever cause any issues. The few issues we have are normally user induced.....

I think your issue is Internet Explorer not Windows. Try using Chrome. Wouldn't own an Apple anything.

We have been using Macintosh Apple since the beginning the the revolution. We stuck with it. First and foremost reason was my wife was working in Commercial art and sign making. At the time it was an operational set up that was geared for less geeky and hassle. We enjoy the relatively decent freedom from disease and hackers. We don't have any thing else but the Apple computers, iPad and I phones. Prices up front were higher some times for things but the relative ease of operation and the aforementioned have more than paid for up for it all.

My Apple //e still works without any issue... every now and then I need to pull up an old letter or lease from 40 years ago... still reads the Floppy just fine.

I think of the Apple //e as the Model A of computers...

I've had Apple computers for over ten years now. They work well and pair with my iPhone. I have no complaints. I DID NOT like all the "anti-software" I had on computers prior to Apple.

I have a 27" Mac desk top I use for home / work now for at least the last 10 years now. In those 10 years, 0 issues, not once. Generally, I utilize software that lets me play nice when other people send me documents. I would really love to learn numbers better as it seems to have more possibilities than excel, but seems no one uses numbers.

My wife writes code/software since she got out of college. She's the "computer person" in the family. She prefers using my Mac Desktop as well. Bought her a surface pro couple years ago for Christmas, she really doesn't like it as she has had nothing but issues with it. Was going to break down and get her a Mac book this year but the company decided to supply her with a laptop for when she's not around the house (works from home).

As far as web browsers go, this is a pain in the arse on my end dealing all manufacturing websites I frequent for work that utilize different web browsers. Had one major manufacturer utilize Internet Explorer 7-8 of all browsers. Nothing like doing a presentation on utiliizting a technical website AT the customers business on HIS computer only to not have anything show up on his screen and then you had to inform him that he HAS to use Internet Explorer to utilize the manufacturers website to it's best ability.
