Here is a barn pads I stripped back on may 31....bought 2.5 weeks into a drought.
Anyone used a tiller to remove topsoil for driveway?

Tilling it first will speed up decomposition.
I had a nice crop of bluegrass where my tin shed was to be built so I tilled and remove about 6" to get most of the vegetation. The 2 big piles of sod & soil decomposed and when the building was finished, the soil was easy to work with for grading.

You might want to mow a couple of weeks in advance before tilling, to help decomposition.
With that much material, 750 ft of driveway, I like LD1's advice to windrow the loose material to each side with an angled blade instead of scooping it.

Yep. 4 inches of soil off an 11 foot wide driveway adds up fast; about 100 yards of loam off the 750 feet.
