You are correct. You can get a similar package with the ram but only with a standard cab long bed. Ford offers it in all cabs.
RAM and GM have a HD package as well, it's called the 2500/3500 and comes in all cab and drivetrain layouts as well. Ford is the only one that needs a whole different truck for HD.

Again, look at the title of the tread. You are confused. We are talking f150 here. The OP isn't looking for ANOTHER 2500/250 series truck.

Also, what do you mean when you say the ram and gm trucks are the same between the 1/2 and 3/4 segments? Are you just talking interiors or what?

I've got a 2500hd chevy with a 6.0, another one would be nice but it only gets 12mpg. It is a good truck though. I'll be getting rid of it sometime this year coming up.

I also have a 2500 Dodge. Good truck but persistent suspension and steering problems. Partially to blame the 35 inch tires and 2 inch lift possibly. My other dodge was stock though and the suspension was pretty ragged by 60k miles when I sold it.

Interior and exterior design as well as layout. The differences are mostly unseen such as brakes, axles, transmission internals, suspension, etc...

And looking at 3k lbs of payload capacity IS looking for another 2500/250 series truck. Ford is just putting that capacity under 1/2 ton sheetmetal because their HD trucks are so different. Most guys hauling a 5th wheel camper don't want that much larger Super Duty truck where the RAM/GM HD's are much more similar.

Just because the title says f150 doesn't mean that's all you can discuss. The OP DID ask for payload comparisons.

Again, the differences between the F150 and F150 HD are similar to the differences between the RAM/GM 1500 and 2500's. If it makes the OP feel better, I'm sure someone can stick a 1500 badge on a 2500 like Ford does...

As an aside, anyone know what the maintenance costs are like on these relatively rare 7 lug fords? I imagine the brakes and suspension wear parts are not going to be cheap...

do these f150 hd's come with a full float rear axle and bigger brakes and stiffer springs?

As far as I know, springs are same but shocks are heavy duty and rear axle is upgraded from 8.8" to the 9.75" but still a semi-float not full-float. Wierd that the spring packs are the same between a 1500 lb payload F150 and a 3100 lb payload F150. Seems the HD shocks take the extra payload, I'm sure they will be as expensive and short-lived as the shocks on my uncle's old 98 F150 7700 package...

The big three have all priced me out of the market... I see pop-up adds for 3 year old ford F150 trucks priced at a steal at $38.500. Probably new more than $50,000. I would be happy to buy a small diesel 1/4 ton but no one makes one unless you go to Asia.

As far as I know, you are incorrect sir. The springs are different. Yes it would be wierd for the springs to be the same. max springs.jpg

HD shocks taking the extra payload? Is there a source you can cite or is the something you made up?
How are you sure they will be as expensive and short lived as the shocks on your uncle's 15 year old truck?
What valuable information can be gained from this post?
