Wife and I usually go to the "cheap seat" movies in Winston. $2.50 to get in, large popcorn and soda for $9 and free refills (the popcorn is the best I've ever had by the way).

Well, this afternoon, had nothing to do and it was hot. Nothing was really playing at the "cheap seats", but wanted to go and see "Iron Man" so we went to the "regular theaters" in Winston.

Movie states in the paper that start time is 4 pm.

Get to the movies at 3:35, plenty of time, but a line about 70 yards long. Wait in line, get into the movies at 3:55 pm ($14.50 for the two of us which is the "special rate" for afternoon flicks). Wait in line for popcorn and soda, which ran $11). I felt like I was in the dang Army hurrying up and waiting in that darn line.

Now the fun starts.

Get into the actual theater and end up watching commercials for 20 minutes!!! (before the previews even start). After the commercials (Which I could watch on T.V) have to put up with 5 or 6 previews.

The movie actually started at 4:35.

I told my wife, that is the last time I ever go to the regular movies (first time I've been to the "regular" movies in two years).

Apologies for the rant, but when we go to the "cheap seats", no more than 5-10 people in front of us, get right in, popcorn and soda get to us fast, and the movie actually starts the time is listed in the paper, with no commercials or previews.

Does everyone have the same experience at the "regular" movies? If so, why do you put up with it?

So after all that, what did you think of Iron Man? We loved it!

Net Flix, my answer to the movies. The wife and I go to the movies about once a year, to an afternoon show when something like Indiana Jones or one of the lord of the rings movies come out.

For the rest we have Net Flix, $14 per month and I average 2 or 3 movies per week.

Ditto.

Actually, part of the reason for the crowd was probably due to Indiana Jones (which I remember going to the first A LONG TIME AGO:D ).

We also use Netflix.

That one movie "experience" this afternoon will last me along time. Again, just amazed that people deal with "all that crap" in going to the movies.

For some reason, I'm not fond of long lines and waiting in them anymore.

Go to the theater maybe once a year when I just can't wait...Rings trilogy, Narnia, 300 (should have waited for that one), that's it in the last 6 years or so.

Netflix. I get some movies I end up turning off partway through, but I have seen many gems I had never heard about...really, really good movies. "2 days in the Valley"---never heard of it, absolutely loved it. "Secondhand Lions" moved into my all time top ten...and I had never heard of it. Boondock Saints, Who is Cletis Tout?.....never would have seen them without Netflix.

I haven't been to a movie theater since Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, released in 1986. I just wait for HBO, Showtime, etc.

Be lucky you have 'cheap seats' .. here in florida, 2.50$ and they won't even let you walk by the theater on the sidewalk.

early shows cost about 6-7$ and late shows 9-10$... soda is 2.25-3.75, and pop corn is about the same..

Never, if I have anything to say about it. My reasoning is everything stated by Sigarms and add to that the extremely loud volume level in the theater and idiots who enjoy talking on their cell phones during the movie.

There is probably no bigger movie buff than I am on this forum.

The commercial thing is a real hassle. I notice there is a lot less of it lately. What you can do is call and ask when the movie actually starts and show up then. I generally come 10 to 15 minutes late and miss most of the BS

Can't remember when I last went to a movie but it must be about 20 or more years ago.:D :D :D
