Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

They're knocking on our door in Ohio and with a warm spell next week they should start showing up. We're ready.

As we've discussed before, I think some of the birds return the next year because they go to spaces where feeders may have been the last year but aren't the current year.

When we see those little swarms of bugs in the yard the birds seem to show up. Must be a culinary prediction since they eat so many of them.

Looks like there in central WI now. We reside north of that.

Really it’s only April 10th I highly doubt there are any Hummingbirds in central Wisconsin right now. Maybe they will start showing up here in a couple more weeks.

Agree, the returning birds do. The first location I hung a feeder always gets the most visits.

Finally saw our first bird this morning! After hitting 80° yesterday, he picked a cooler (50°), windy day to show up.

We can't be far behind. Wife will put up a feeder today. Maybe one that sticks to the window. Here's hoping everyone has birds this year.

It's the same. You just have to enlarge the screen until the individual sighting marks appear. Click on one and it will tell you when and where the sighting was plus any comments.

Remember that early visits are sometimes scarce because they eat buy first and have nests to build and babies to think about. FYI.

We haven't seen one lately but they are around here and further to the north as well. I do believe scouts go out in advance of the larger flocks. Not sure if looking for food or accommodations but there are lots of single bird sighting.

Our numbers seem low or else I just have not seen them. So far only two when in the past it has been two dozen plus easily.

We had 2 scouts earlier this year - and NONE since then.

Our previous average in years past has been around 50 or so. I sure don't know what happened, but we do miss having them around.

Don't think I'm gonna do it this year. I get 5 birds and 500 wasps and hornets of various voracity.


It's kind of funny though to watch the birds and the wasps face off and chase each other around the feeders.

I rarely have wasps around the feeders, they don't have access to get anything.
The one bird keeps coming back to the feeder.
Very dark body, small bright red on neck, not the green body I am used to seeing around here.
Been around for a few days already.

Still quiet here. After I saw the male on the 15th, one of our two feeders slowly dropped. A few days ago, I saw a female. I had refreshed the water that day. Now it's quiet again though we have been pretty busy so I have not been watching that much. I do have hear warblers moving though.

We finally saw one returning male yesterday. Hopefully it's just a bit early to give up hope for the return of the flocks.
