Anyone built/bought a spreader for compost?

I searched and found this link, but it looks pretty cheesy to me. I don't think it would ever empty completely, but I might be wrong. http://www.composters.com/docs/lawncare3.html#cs

I am thinking about a cross between a manure spreader and a drop seeder. What I'd really like is a 36" drop seeder with slots big enough to allow the compost to flow through. If I build something, it will be along these lines.

Any thoughts or suggestions? THANKS.

I think a manure spreader would be the best bet.

Northern Tool is now selling a small manure spreader for $1,000 bucks.

I haven't looked at it in real life though.

Earth and Turf makes a pull behind unit that works good..it costs around 2500.00, I think.

Our local Farm Bureau Co-op had very small manure spreaders in stock.

Hi Ron,
I took a basic drop spreader and cut the slots bigger which did not really work.

Then I ran across this which is just a larger version of what I tried to do. I think it would be easy to build one bigger.

Something to ponder.

Ahhhhhhhhh, $1K to $2.5K is a LOT to think about when I do this once/twice a year. Hard to swallow when I can shovel it from the trailer for $0000000000.

If I decide to build something, I'm thinking it will be <36" wide to fit in gates, powdered by a 5HP B&S. I like the simplicity of a drop spreader, but fear the compost will get hung up, so I might have to fashion a mini(like real mini!) manure spreader.
