Just to let you know there are many several folks with the Grand Cab. Mr 5030 is the one that comes to mind first. You should get a good answer from him.

ledebuhr1:

First off, thank you RaT for the referral. Anyway, I have a 5030HSTC which is the largest of the series.

Having 4 previous Kubota's with no cabs and being an old fart, I decided the next utility tractor was going to have a cab, just like our Ag tractors.

I am mostly happy with Kubotas cab on the L series with a few exceptions. The stock configured air conditioning sucks. There is too much glass area and the tint isn't deep enough to reduce the reflected heat to the point where the ac unit can keep the cab comfortable in hot weather. I modified the ac unit and now it does a good job. There is a thread posted about my fix, maybe RaT knows how to link it, I don't. Kubota is also aware of the problem and they are also aware of my solution (R&D in California). The side wing windows will not stay open during rough going and the front windshield wiper doesn't clear enough of the glass for comfortable viewing in the rain.
On the plus side, the cab is quiet, more so than JD (I have one of those). The fit and finish and ergo's are excellent. Above head level controls are also excellent. The heater is excellent. The sound system is good, not as good as a car, but this isn't a car either.
The view from the cab with the FEL attached is also very good. The only time the loader isn't in view is when the loader is at full vertical reach.
The view to the rear, especially when hooking to the draw bar is excellent, however, the seat needs to swivel to the side about 30 degrees. The seat also need to be tilted back about 10 degrees. You have a tendency to slide forward if your seat belt isn't fastened.
Ingress and egress is excellent. The all glass doors are wide and swing completely out of the way. You have to make a conscious effort to shut the doors as the cab is almost air tight.

I opted for the extra work lights, front and rear. The stock headlights are weak, the auxiliary lights are a must.

I have used mine all summer in a haying operation on some pretty rough ground and I have yet to hear a squeak or rattle. Overall, the cab L series is well designed and is an excellent first time effort for Kubota.

Daryl, someone mentioned that the loader control is an issue with the cab. What do you think. Just fine, prone to problems? Ledebuhr is thinking about the 3430 with cab and I think is puzzled by the guys statement about the joystick for the cab loader. Rat...

Thanks for your thoughts.

What year is yours?? do you think Kubota has improved the AC, wing doors and Windshield wipers on the new models??

I really want a good A/C, thoes cabs are like a green house in the summer.

I would like to see the link on how you fixed the A/C. and did i rob any more hp from the engine??

As far as the remote, cable operated cab mount loader control, I think it's slicker than cat poop.

Mine works perfectly, very smooth and trouble free. It's located right next to your right knee. You don't have to reach at all, just lay your hand on it and go.

The loader control has an internal lock on it so that when the loader is off or you are transporting something in the loader, you can activate it so if you bump the joystick, the loader will not move.

I see you mentioned about using the new HST cruise control lever instead of the foot pedal to control the forward motion. I do that too. that's pretty slick too!!

Lastly, would you link my ac thread for this fella, I don't know how to do it.

As far as the link about the ac fix,, if Rat knows how to link it, maybe he will do it. If not, look at my posts, it will be there.

I don't notice any power loss with the ac running other than the engine increases in rpm a little.

Finally, Kubota is aware of the problems. As far as whether they have made any changes to date, I can't answer that. Kubota dosen't change by years, it's by model, just like all the other manufacturers. Mine was new at Christmas last.

Do any of you guys with the cab think adding a window film would help?? I know many windows in homes have low-E tinting. if the windows were tinted with Low-e, it would help with external heat gain. just an idea

Hi Ledebuhr1,

I have a L3430 HST with Cab that I bought last April. It is great. The AC on mine works well although one hot day during the summer, I noticed it was a little warm at midday. Of course this past summer in PA was a cool one for the most part. My favorite thing about the cab is the lack of dust and debris blowing around when brushhogging. I also was saved from a lot of yellow jacket stings when I ran over a nest. They swarmed around my brush hog and cab but couldn't get to me at all. There must have been a couple of hundred yellow jackets around. I haven't used it in the winter yet but have tried out the heater already and it is excellent. We are already in the 30's and have even had some snow. Visibility is excellent and the loader control is easy to use.

RaT:

Thank you. You know I am not very computer literate. I actually bought a digital micrometer the other day for the shop. I imagine pretty soon, my eyesight will get poor enough where I will need all digital readouts on my machine tools.

I was brought up on vernier scales, high tech to me is analog. Digital and computerized is like the cosmos for me.

I didn't know if you put this particular thread in your favorites. I quired Mike (moderator) last night and asked him to link it if you didn't catch it. I see you did. Again, thank you.

I imagine that you could add tint film to the front window, but the doors are all galss and rimless. My ac fix cures the problem. Believe me, I have put the ac to the test and it passed with flying colors.

Just remember to close the doors before moving the tractor. Not closing them can be a painful and expensive lesson. I have learned that lesson first hand!!!

I am not going to elaborate any more on the above statement, nor am I going to start a thread explaining my stupidity. All I will say, the glass doors are expensive and they are most certainly safety glass.
