Good Saturday even to ya'll. I'm thinking of building a simple road scrape before winter gets here and could use your help. I have about a mile of gravel road and I'd like to just do a drag job once a month or so to keep the gravel up on top. I've used the baseball diamond type drag but now would like to make a simple box or tine type scrape. I'm a retired machinist and I have a small shop still here at the house. It's just basically a keep busy project, plus would give me an excuse to get on my GeezerMobile. Just a simple plan would help and input is always appreciated. You can see my Hot Rod wheel chair in my pictures. I plan on using 8020 alum to build it, to keep weight down. Thanks for any help or pictures. Rick

Searches here will produce tons of road grader units, home made and purchased.

You can't get simpler than two railroad ties and some chain. My preference would be to step up to some 3/8" or 1/2" angle iron or railroad rails, two sections that would cover your tire tracks. Either use chain or weld some front to back members; you can make it adjustable, so might want to start with chain to keep it easy to modify.

Angle the front open side down (like this ^) such that it pulls dirt from the right to the left. Then place the rear one straight across.

Fast and easy. If your road is hard, you can weld some bolts on the leading edge to act as scarifiers.

Hope this helps.

Best I ever used was was some heavy duty grating from an industrial plant tear down. You can angle it either direction by shortening and or lengthing the chain. The grating will act similiar to your basebal diamond drag, but the many cross pieces carry a lot of material.

The most simple and effective piece of equipment ive seen, which doesnt need a tractor to operate, is the front runner grader rake attachment:

You can maintain and also do light remodeling of the road with a truck or any other vehicle. A drag will only reduce the crown of the road every time you use it.

Because you already have a snow blade, you might want to take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr3wXz2yV-Y&feature=related
