I'll give you a clue... it's hollow, the fillet welds at the corners are 2" (look under my hand) and it's fully hand welded.

Looks like an excavator thumb. But hand welded?

That's modern art. Actually a mustache from a new age work of art downtown.... Pretty impressive.

It looks like a part from the latest EA WICKED Grapple.

Your Komatsu Visitor helmet is a big clue though.

Personally, i've never seen a "ride-on" mill before, but they have one.

The rotator holding the bucket is used to minimize the need for out of position welds. The typical welder setting was 400a at 36v. The bucket in the photos is the "small one" at 36 yards.

That’s a tour many of us would like to have!

Cool stuff. I'm lucky enough to have spent a lot of time working with the mine folks on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota. The equipment is daunting and the support facillities in the area have nothing but monster sized handling equipment. Did some Plasma Welding consulting at Joy Global in Milwaukee too. Huge mine equipment manufacturer. Love that big stuff.

That plant is about 5 miles from me. Ironically, we're also working on it's replacement.

Pictures and videos like these bring back fond memories of Tonka trucks and loaders working the quarries I build in my sand box decades ago.

Mining equipment can be way huge. This scooping machine accidentally scooped up a D8R cat and they needed to use a crane to lift it out. Notice how small the cat is compared to the other machine.

Oh yes the memories of solo in my sandbox under the deck of my parent's house. Army men, matchbox cars, firecrackers along with my Tonka trucks. :cloud9:

Yeah equipment and soldier scale way off but it worked!

If someone hasn't seen this before: the D8R is behind the word 'crash' in the video title.
