Best saw I have bought is a Skil Wormdrive. Works great.

The Skil 77 has been the go-to contractor saw for over 40 years. Once you could get a comparable saw from DeWalt. I don't know if they still make it. For conventional circular saws, Porter-Cable is the best I have ever used.

My model 77 bought in 1973 finally wore out a couple years ago. Bought this Bosch to replace it. Pretty much the same as the old 77 except lighter and uses an extension cord plugged into the handle. I always had a 25 ft cord on the 77 anyway so this is even better. Truth is I got it mostly because I had a worm drive all the time and didn't feel right without one. But now I use the little sidewinder Skil for 2" lumber and plywood.

For many years it was the only sidewinder with the blade where you can see it. Never liked the right side saws. Before cordless saws came in this little trim saw was in a class by itself. Just recently I got a cordless Makita with left side blade it is even better.

I got Dewault and Milwaukee.

I'd be interested in also getting a corded 6 1/2", if cordless doesn't work out. I just got 18V 6 1/2 it is great from small stuff. I did birds mouths for the rafters of my shed. You can't have to many tools

I'd like the ?" that goes through 4x4s, but the costs goes up way to much. Why don't they make 8" circ saws, is a good question. Probably because that is all they have ever made.

First wormdrive I had was Skil 8 1/4". They still make it as well as a 10 1/4" wormdrive for 4" lumber.

But why not plan old circ saw in 8". I am not overly familar with worm drive, but the bigger saws were alot more money.

I love my Skil worm drive. Its Narrow. The extra length is great when bending over ripping a 4x8 sheet of plywood. They have a slip type clutch because the toque of these things will handle a 10 1/4" as built or with a big foot conversion.

Ditto on the skill worm , carpenter 4 37 year's and use a 8" on everything.Couple of years ago I wanted a Light saw 4 thin sh-- and always wanted a porter cable 4 " worm used it on a job it was great, when I finnaly found it in a store it was $500 :confused2: so I bought a 6"mag 77 great saw!!Hate regular cirucular saws but if I had to choose one ide go for the Makita .Being on big jobs u get a chance to use every saw out there .Most of the time u go in a gang box and look 4 a saw u find 5 or 6 cincular saws with a NFG on it and at the bottom someone hid a skill worm.:drink:
