I will be attending a dealer sales seminar (read; training class) on Toolcats Thursday morning. If you have anything you would like asked of the Bobcat factory personnel, post it here (or on the backhoe thread) and I will see what I can do to get your questions answered.

I leave Thursday morning @ 5:30 PST, and will post any replies on Friday.

The first that comes to mind is WHEN are they going to update their web site to reflect the new C version??? Nothing looks changed since early summer at least.

Pay good attention in that class Rob.... I am sure many things will come up later for us to pick your brain on. Such "official" expertize can be hard to come by on these forums but is always welcome.

This is a very personal thing just for me, but being 6'7" and 350+ lbs, I can't really use a ToolCat for more than a test drive because my right leg/thigh gets in the way of the hydraulic joystick (can't move the joystick to the left at all).

It'd be really nice if Bobcat would offer the ToolCat with an extended cab just like on pickup trucks. That way it might be possible to offer an extended seat track option to let those of us who truly qualify as "big AND tall" seriously consider purchasing a ToolCat. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Also, the extended cab configuration would give you a place to store tools and supplies inside and out of the weather and leave the entire dump bed available for whatever materials you need to move with it.

I don't know the numbers, but I'd bet that the vast majority of pickup trucks are sold as super cabs (or even crew cabs) these days just to have that extra interior room. Note that I have no desire what so ever to carry extra passengers in that extended cab space, just tools and supplies, and to allow more leg room for the drivers seat.

Is there a Front Window Guard or are there any other Special Applications Kits designed or suitable for Toolcats?

On page IX ot the Jan. 2005 5600 B-Series Operation & Maintenance Manual, a list of Options and Field Installed Accessories includes "Rear PTO, Rear Auxillary Hydraulics, Remote Hydraulics, Rear Window Guard, and Special Applications Kit (FRONT WINDOW GUARD)." And in the online Spring 2004 Worksaver, there is an article, Tailor Your Toolcat 5600 To Match The Job, which lists "several new dealer-installed accessories to customize the Toolcat 5600 to fit your own specific needs," including bedliner, rear work lights, "Front and rear window guards" and more.

I bought the Rear Window Guard, but haven't been able to find out info on the Front Window Guard or any Special Applications Kits including a Front Window Guard. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Is it made of lexan or metal? Will one be coming out, or did Bobcat decide not to offer it after advertising it? And where and how would it attach to the Toolcat: front cab frame, lift arm, fenders or __?

Would it be for special applications using certain attachments like stump grinders, chippers, tree shears & brush saws, where there is potential danger for flying objects or falling debris coming onto and perhaps breaking the front windshield?

BobcatBob,

I never heard of the Toolcat before coming to this site.

Just tell the corporate people that they have developed a very intriguing product.

As a rental unit I think it would do great as opposed to the normal Bobcat.

I think you already know there is a growing property owner interest in this product, although it may be aimed at the professional landscaper, etc.

As you have read the posts, you can see there are special needs too if a consumer product is developed, like operator comfort. I only bring this up because I read here somewhere that Bobcat was thinking of a smaller version.

I guess any information about the future of this product would be appreciated.

Kude :

Initially, the pro landscaper was (and still is) one of the larger target markets considered for the Toolcat, but there seems to be more sales to landowners/ranchers and Municipalities (schools, cities, etc.) than anywhere else. Most of my demos and sales have been to those two categories, with just a luke-warm reception and interest from the local landscapers. I am in a smaller market that tends to be about 2 years behind when considering newer technology for purchase, so I expect our Toolcat sales to begin growing next year.

The questions are great so far........ Keep 'em coming!

Why do S130, S150 & S160 SSLs have more attachments than Toolcats approved by Bobcat as compatible, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif when they share engines and are close in some performance ratings like SAE ROC & tipping load, as well as weight and dimensional specs?

Bobcat's trend is toward increasing the range of compatible and approved Toolcat attachments - the 62" combo bucket and heavy 60" Brushcat now are formally approved for Toolcat 5600C. A 3-ft. dig depth Bobcat Trencher is approved for 5600B & 5600C.

But the S130 SSL with 1300-lb. ROC, 2634-lb. tipping load & 16.9 GPM ratings and a weight only 300 pounds more than a Toolcat is also formally approved for 4-ft. dig depth Bobcat Diggers, 4-ft. Trencher, Brush Saw, backhoes, 60" industrial bucket grapple, 66" industrial fork & bucket grapples, etc.

Of course some smaller SSLs can't handle stump grinders and mowers like the 4-wheel-steer Toolcats can! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can you kindly suggest that at wwwToolcat.com that they provide written information, specifications, about their attachments. I click on the photographs, and get a larger photo, but it doesn't give any attachment specifications.

Also most every manufacturer shows sprayers, like for spraying lawns. Woul like to see sprayers that are used for spraying trees. We have 1,400 olive trees that we spray, and I would like to see photographs of that kind of sprayer. Large capacity tanks for a LOT of spraying.

Specifically what amount of slope can the Toolcat handle? 30 degree slope, 20 degree slope? Would like to know the enginerring specs on slope that it should handle, with a load in the dump bed in back and without a load.

Waiting on their lower priced model.

Bobcat does have detailed information available on all their equipment and attachments, but it isn't obvious how to get it. If you look towards the bottom of every attachment page, there is usually a link that says "[Download spec sheet: NNNk / X pages]". This will get you a PDF spec sheet/brochure on the specific attachment. They also have PDF spec sheet/brochures on all of their main equipment items.

That being said, Bobcat does need to do a much better job of updating their website ASAP for new equipment or, more importantly, updates to existing equipment. The ToolCat pages in particular mention absolutely nothing I have found about the A, B, or C series ToolCat, not mention the new rear PTO and hydraulics options, even in the ToolCat's downloadable PDF spec sheet/brochure.

Rox, www.toolcat.com takes you to the Toolcat Work Machine product page on bobcat.com, and there you'll find a prominent top right link labeled "Attachments" that you can click and view nice color photos of many (but not all available) attachments attached to Toolcats. What you missed is a completely separate link on the top left of the page, also titled "Attachments," but under the "Products" heading. This is where you'll find the details on Bobcat attachments for not only Toolcat Work Machines, but also Bobcat's other lines. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Many attachments are shared between product lines. Unfortunately there are no links between the Toolcat attachments photos page and corresponding info in the Products -->Attachments area of the web site! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

rox,

I hear you on the sprayer thing. I went to my JD dealer. There sits a nice pull behind 15 gallon sprayer with a hand sprayer, exactly what I need. I can't find it on their web site. Not every dealer handles the whole product line and their web sites don't show everything offered.

Don't ask me why.

Yes I was moving snow in -27 celcius last night - could not see a thing coming in and out of driveways!

Mike,
I am sorry, I misread your original post. I now understand that you meant hot air vents for the front window, and the absence of such for the side/rear windows!
The new C series has much better flow than previous models, however, I do believe that when there is a large temp differential you will need to either run the hot air with the A/C on to dehumidify or open up the aforementioned side venting windows to help freeze dry the air by the windows. I do agree that a duct for the side windows would be a welcome addition!
Good luck!

Everyone-

Well, I’m back from a very informative seminar, and armed with more knowledge than I can ever hope to remember much past this weekend. I figured I better answer your questions now while it’s still fresh. I will go thru the questions as they appeared in the thread. Please keep in mind that some of what we learned may be of a proprietary nature, so if it seems like I’m avoiding a direct answer to any particular question……… Well, I probably am. I’ll do the best I can but feel free to fire off a Private Message in my direction if you want me to expand on anything. I will also post some other interesting stuff (including a cool “easter-egg”) when I have more time this weekend.

Rip: While Bobcat does a super job at making sure there is updated paper literature available for all their newer improvements, the website gets overlooked sometimes. I brought that to their attention.

Bam747: Your suggestion for an “expanded” cab raised an eyebrow or two. It was something they had honestly not thought about, and something they may explore. Maybe if they use your idea I can get you a t-shirt or something /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif XXL or XXXL?

BrianSouthernMD: There is a useable prototype of the front window guard at the factory. Interest in that option was not high enough for it to go to production, but if they get enough calls for one…….. I know it is not like the special app kit (lexan) and so gathered that it was a metal shield of some sort. I’m sorry, but I didn’t ask about the attaching method. If this is near and dear to your heart for your Toolcat’s protection, I can do some more research.

Kude: Yes, there is a “smaller” version coming out.

BrianSouthernMD (again): The new “C” series Toolcat can use any of the attachments approved for the S130 with the exception of these three: Breaker (jackhammer), Industrial grapple, and Backhoe attachment. The new boom design on the “C” series has much improved roll-back force (2500 lbs vs. 670 lbs on the “A” & “B” series) which is why a lot of the attachments were not approved before. As an aside, they also decreased the amount of roll-back angle at maximum lift height, making it much less likely that you will drop something on your cab if you aren’t paying attention while lifting. The other really cool feature of the newer boom design- 2000 lbs lifting capacity to 60” height. You will not see this in any of the new literature/specs because the “operating” (vs. “lifting”) capacity also includes the necessity to STOP the unit safely once you have lifted your load and begin moving it. Sorry. I expanded on that way more than I meant to……. I digress. My Bobcat district attachment rep is checking to see if there is any problem running the Bob-tach backhoe attachment on the Toolcat. Stay tuned.

rox: I suggested they make the link to the specs on the website easier to find.
I will admit that I don’t frequent Bobcat’s website as much as I should to see if it is up-to-date with current attachment offerings, but there are currently two back-of-the-bed sprayer units (50 and 75 gallon) available for the Toolcat. They both come standard with a wand and have a couple of different boom options.
Amount of slope…….. I honestly thought there was no way in the world I would get a hard answer on this question, but I asked anyway. Legal disclaimer: Keep in mind, the member of TBN known as BobcatBoy is NOT a factory representative of the Bobcat company………..
35% front-to-rear, 25-28% side hill (fully loaded).
Your results may vary. Kids, don’t try this at home. That holder in the center console is for soda, not beer. Etc, etc.

Mike123: You did not mention which “series” Toolcat you were running. The “C” series has improved duct work and a larger blower for the HVAC system.

From the that-bites depatment- The "C" series was released in Sept of this year. I know most (if not all) of you are running "A" or "B" series units. Feedback from customers prompted a few changes over the last couple of years and Bobcat isn't done making improvements quite yet. Kinda like buying a computer in that the technology will pass up whatever you buy quicker than we would like. Equipment dealers suffer as well. The upside, for those considering a Toolcat purchase- Be informed. If you can do without the latest, greatest features/options, look for "new" older models that may still be in the dealer's fleet. By knowing that a newer model is in production you may be able to work a better deal. Alternately, if you are looking to purchase the newest model, make sure that is what is being presented (and quoted) to you.

From the For-what-it’s-worth department- The Bobcat factory Toolcat/Utility vehicle rep (Brad) did a great job presenting the material to us sales-types today. He was intrigued to discover there was a forum on TBN dedicated solely to the Toolcat, and I gave him my printed copy of this thread which he spent some time perusing. ALL of the equipment suppliers/manufacturers would be wise to monitor sites like TBN to see what the actual users of their products are discussing. With that said, I also know this is NOT a site for reps/sales types to tout their particular brand of equipment. I am trying to inform here without breaking Forum Rule #3 (No Advertising) so if you see anyone (me included) oversteping that boundary, please tell us to shut-up and get back to work.

Thanks for all the great questions. You guys made me look really in touch with the customers today.

Rob
