I tried to search the forums but could not find this answer. I am needing to put some antifreeze in my over flow bottle. I have on hand 2 types of prestone antifreeze....1 that is a 50/50 solution for "all makes of vehicles" and the other is a full strength antifreeze again for "all makes"....is this okay to put in my yanmar???

Thanks,

Scott

yep. If you dont have a water pump, the maximum ratio you want according to hoye and others is 20% antifreeze. If you have a pump you can mix those that you have at what ever dillution you want, as long as it gives you freeze protection for you r area

It sounds like what you have is the new universal type so yes it is ok just like it says you can use it no problem.

The old green/yellow ethylene glycol type is not recommended to be mixed with newer cars with long life coolant like dexcool and other manufactures pet brand names there are 8 or 9 different types now, universal is supposed to work in all fwtw.

You need the stuff specially formulated for diesel engines.

You can use any antifreeze, for diesels or not. I do the same, including on our 1987 Mercedes SDL and its got 261,000 miles on it and runs like a top.

as stated use max of 25% coolant in a thermosyphon system(no water pump) and up to 50/50 with water pumped units. i prefer to use concentrates and mix them myself as the premixed ones i feel are stingy in the glycol department. i changed my coolant today(the coolant in the reservoir had no colour left and it came out of the block grey!) i mixed it in a bucket and filled it up and the reservoir with the same mix. i suggest you replace it all so you know it is all the same brew. i ran it hard nearly all day slashing and it never went over 100 deg C. and the ambient was in the high 20s C
