Another TC40D

With a little luck I will taking delivery of a new TC40D tomorrow. My dealer was installing the two rear hydrualic remotes today. All he has left is to install the block heater, switch over the 17A loader to the quick attach bucket and run on the dyno for about a half hour. I was oringally going to the get the mid-mount 84" mower but decided to go with a Farm King 84" rear discharge three point hitch mower. I traded a year old JD 4400 with a 72" midmount mower and the 430 loader. I was initially going to trade for a JD 4410 until one of the local JD dealers steered me to a NewHolland dealer. I had been looking at the NewHolland tractor for a couple of years but just couldn't quite make the move from green paint to blue. An arrogant, miserable John Deere dealer irritated me the day before the local farm show. As I was making my rounds I met my local NewHolland dealer who had a TC45D on display. I told him to put together his best price on a trade. A week later we had a deal. I think the new Deere 4000 Ten tractors are very nice tractors but the closer I look at these new Boomers I think Newholland has the edge. As I look at all of the posts on this board it appears I am not the only one with this opinion. It seems as though NewHolland has made a big move against Deere and Kubota.

Welcome to the TC40D ranks! Be sure to let us know tomorrow night how your first day with your new baby goes and post some pics if you can. Sure wish I had gotten the rear remotes when I bought mine, plan on adding them this spring.

Interested to hear how your FarmKing 84" mower works out for you. Only have a 72" which barely covers the tractor wheels and am considering whether to get the 3pt mower or belly. (Probably a fall or next spring purchase)

Welcome TCowner! What a great machine in this TC40D. I so far (and my wife with the most seat time) am quite impressed with the Farm King 84RD. It seems to really blow out the clippings in a wide distribution pattern with significant velocity that the wetter grass clippings are nearly dry by the time they hit the ground. (Well, maybe I haven't actually measured the moisture content of the clippings yet but there is a noticable difference.) I too had the rear hydraulics installed and will be looking for a rear blade attachment for light grading and ditching. Enjoy the new wild BLUE yonder!

It appears that the class III Boomer members of this board gets bigger every day. Unfortunately, my membership technically won't begin until tomorrow. The quick attach bucket didn't arrive on Friday like we thought. The dealer is quite sure he will see it tomorrow. My dealer is only 7 miles away so I took my wife, two boys (twins-age 12, can't wait to try it out) and brother-in-law to see it. I felt like a new father showing off his new son or daughter. My brother-in-law is a diehard JD guy like me and initially thought I was insane to have traded the Deere for the NH. After a careful lookover I could see that he was starting to appreciate what the TC35D, 40D, and 45D folks have been saying for about three years now. I'm not sure he is converted yet but he admitted he was impressed. So another 32 hours or so before the new addition. My Silverado will have to sit outside or go to the machine shed at least for the first couple of days while the TC gets the garage space. Of course it will not be sitting outside during bad weather.

Watch out for this. Mine didn't start overflowing until I had my TC 40D about a year. The dealer lowered the electrolyte level to just above the plates and then turned the battery around and rerouted the cables so that the battery caps are more near the tractor front. My was extensively damaged by the corroding acid. Dealer replaced the radiator, hydraulic hoses and entire battery tray front end plate area. I'd suggest, with a new tractor, right off the bat, lower the level as a minimum.

Duane, I think I have discovered (just paid attention, really) the problem with our batteries and getting acid on the radiator and hydro coolant lines. Did you ever think about the air vent grille we have on the top of the hood? If it rains into that opening, the water goes right on top of the battery. If the battery has any acid residue, the water becomes an acid solution which gets sucked into the radiator as soon as we start the engine. My tractor stays outside a lot, and they all do on the dealer's lot. I'd be willing to bet that if we covered the batteries so they didn't get rained on, there would be a lot less acid damage to our tractors. For now, I just keep the top of my battery spotless clean and hope I don't have anymore acid problems until I can fabricate a battery cover. What do you think?
