I have learned much about these older (mechanical fuel injection) models from such feedback (plus my own wrenching and the manuals). But I plead complete ignorance when it comes to the common-rail computer-controlled stuff.

if the fuseable link was inline somewhere before the starter there would be no click.
most fuseable links come directly off the battery or positive starter post to feed the fuses.
you would also have other items not working
