My name is Ryan, and I am a freshmen in high school. Ever since I was small, I always liked working on things. I like working on small engines, which I do for people on the side. My real passion, didn't start until I was about 9 years old, and my father went out and bought a Farmall Super A with a few attachments. He grew up on a farm, and this is what they mainly used. When he brought it home, I didn't think too much of it, besides "It's just a tractor." Then when he started working on it, I asked to help, and that's where it took off. We have a lot of time, money, trial and error, and just father-son time in that tractor. Obviously, I didn't understand most of the tractor, but that was the very fist one that I drove, and learned on. But after that, I started to want to learn more, and later on my father and I found a Farmall Super C W/ fast hitch and attachments. By then, (2010) I understood a lot more about the Farmall series, and I got to take a big role in restoring that tractor. Just last year (June 2012,) we (after a lot of thought) traded the Farmall Super A for a non-running Farmall H. This tractor was beat on a lot. The draw-bar was split all the way through in 3 places, and re welded. It was run into a tree, and the engine was seized. Needless to say, it is about half way done, and because of the fact that we don't have a heated workshop, it sat idle all winter. I have always wanted a more rare tractor, something on the international line, and I found it about a month ago, when we went up to see a tractor, that the owner knew nothing about. It was painted grey, and green but then I saw the old original red paint. Then I came to a conclusion that it looked like a McCormick Deering W-4. But then I noticed that there were perforated holes where an exhaust should be. I was thinking to my-self, no exhaust, low to the ground. Then came a light bulb Orchard series! It turned out to be a McCormick Deering OS-4. I asked the owner how much he wanted for it, and he says, he would like to get $1000.00 for it. I'm thinking, that's wicked low!!! He knew nothing about the tractor, and didn't think it would start, because he could never get it to turn over. Somebody did the usual, and put a 12 volt batter on a 6 volt system. I turned on the gas, hooked up the batter cabled, and pulled out the starting switch. Pushed the starter button, and it fired right up, it had to run on half choke because of the carburetor not being adjusted yet. Everything worked like it should, oil pressure, temp. gauge, ammeter, read 17 amps!!! It is the 6 volt generator!!! So after making sure it worked, I shut it off, and told him I'd give him a call the coming week. We knowing how much the tractors worth, offered $500.00 He told us he had another potential buyer coming to take a look at it. I'm thinking Oh crap. I might miss out on this one. The other guy never showed up, and he accepted our offer!!! So I haven't got it yet, but I should be this week. The only things that are noticeably wrong are the clutch is seased, and lights are smashed and cosmetic work. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
