Seems a no brainer, it's the one subject that is relevant to each and everyone here.

I've seen some techno questions asked here and they were pounced on by what seems to be extremely knowledgeable people.

Just a thought, doesn't have to get into moon mission stuff just the basics to keep the average Joe up and running. I'd bet alot of the users here, myself included don't really have a good grasp beyond the basics.

???????

I think you have a great suggestion and idea...it would help a lot of us..I am all for it...

I'm not sure I understand the question. These compact tractors aren't generally sophisticated enough to have anything more than basic processors. The engines are generally in a hp range that doesn't require processor control. What is it you want to know?

Not to be a "stick in the mud", but hundreds of very good computer forums already exist. Especially since Computer Technology covers a LOT of territory. I'd be wary of trying to be all things to all people.

The Army Engineers corp 596 group of Korea and Okinawa used this "We have done so much with so little for so long that now can do anything with nothing."

Ken, I've been using that for 20 odd years. I'm not sure who I stole it from. That's pretty good company, though.

The difficult and perplex we can achieve smartly...the impossible takes a little longer (and usually pictures)

I also vote for computer forum.

Have learned a fair bit here from time to time.
I just would hope that we don't get the type of advice that is way over our heads like one finds on dedicated computer forums.
Those types are eons ahead of me.
Bill Gates I'm not!

Ditto ... I come to TBN to talk about tractors. When I want to talk about computers I go to a computer forum. Simple economics, when supply exceeds demand then value decreases.

Well I was worried about how vast the subject of CT is, but I'm talking about the basics for the folks who are just trying to stay up to date, keep their machines running smoothly etc.

For some of us, joining a computer forum would be intimidating since most of those are for the geeks. I do google searchs to help with my techno issues, but man there is alot of crap out there to sift through.
Since we're already part of this TBN community I think you would/could get help from members you already know and in ways geared to your own speed.

I just counted ~90 forums now, I only particapate in 10 or so, if someones not interested in a particular subject they don't go there.

I said it's a no brainer cause even if you're not interested in snow plowing or welding etc, the one thing that links us all together is this technology.

Like I said, Just a thought. I'm doing pretty good right now but just recently went through some hectic times. With 3 growing students and 5 computer users in the house I faced a few challanges.

1) My first laptops, got 2 of them last fall.
2) My first home/ small office network
3) my first experiance with windows 7, latest versions of MS Office

Any one of these issues not a big deal but because it all came at once it caused some anxiety for sure.

JB,
Now I understand. I'm a long way from a computer expert. I did recently upgrade my technology situation at the house. Being in a rural area, I have always struggled to get a decent internet connection. We researched the dish style system and tested several different wireless devices. We went with the Sprint overdrive wireless hotspot device. Got us a shiny, new ASUS laptop. Paired it with an HP wireless/ internet printer. The internet connection is fast enough to support more than one user. It can support up to 5 users. The ASUS has the i3 processor and Windows 7. Very satisfied, so far. Another cool feature of the printer is the ability to print from my phone via bluetooth or internet. Pretty amazing stuff for those of us that grew up with 3 channels on the TV and Pong was the cool new video game.;)

Well I can't print from my phone but my new Toshiba has the i3 and Win 7 as well, My sons HP is the same. When I finaly upgrade something I go for the best at the time so there's no second guessing. The prices are so reasonable now compared to just a few years ago.

I have a cable modem and an old pc on my network along with an older (non wireless) all in one printer, with some help I got the old printer to work with the network. Now we can all print or fax from pc as well as laptops.

With your service coming from cell phone company does that mean you get internet anywhere you get cell service?

>With your service coming from cell phone company does that mean you get internet anywhere you get cell service?

Basically, but the kind of service you get depends on the strength of your connection. If the cell tower is too far away you get dial up speeds. If you are around about 9 miles or less from the cell tower and not in a valley you can get 3G (mobile broadband) in most places. If you are slightly further out you can still get 3G quality if you use a Yagi antenna like I do and have line of sight to the cell tower, or close to it.

My particular area of the country does not have access to high-speed as yet. Oh we have government promises but nothing so far, so its very slow. But I too am rather slow,.. in that I am far from computer literate. Any forums seem to talk way over my head.

Therefore,.. I too would welcome a Computer Forum of our own where any instructions to do a simple repair or adjustment,... would sound more like the instruction to fix an "older" tractor (before they got computerized),.. so a guy like me could actually understand what someone might be suggesting.

Then if I didn't grasp it the first time,... I wouldn't get the feeling someone was getting impatient with this jerk (me),.. but wouldn't mind taking the time to go over it a few times if necessary till we were both happy!!!

OR, . . do they have a Computer Forum for us older, slower PC illiterate guys who tried to pick it up later in life,.. and are still runnin' along side the train tryin' hard to grab on? (Heck my granbabies crawled right up on a laptop the day they were born,.. and are now drivin' the darn train!!!) Embarrassing!

So you can count me in!!
CHEERS !

I agree that there are not enough threads and posts here on TBN to warrant a new forum. I consider myself reasonably well informed on the subject of computers, etc. but I come to TBN for discussions about tractors and machinery, not technology.
