the government approved the purchase of a lackender baby boomer. included in this authorized procurement is a a 8" bucket. the extras are two teeth on the bucket, a thumb, all the hoses and the piston. we provide the pt quick attach plate to lackender. digging depth 5 feet. total weight about 350 pounds.

reason for the purchase: we gain loading height ( the pt grapple bucket curls at about 51-52") to load stuff into landscape trailers with 4x8 sides (high of trailer floor 16" + 4"sides). we are gaining about 2-2.5 feet of height with this backhoe/thumb grapple devise; when the boom is at the maximum height at the curling point of the backhoe bucket.

we toyed around with an extend a boomer from lackender (550 pounds) but having taken a few nosedives in the past when taking maximum loads in the pt grapple bucket i came to my senses.

Hans & others interested in Lackender hoe :
I gave mine more of a workout today than I had before. I still have the clumsy right-knee lever curl control, since today was a bit of an emergency. It took about two hours to dig a 7 ft. long, 4 ft wide by 5 ft deep hole, plus fifty feet of ditch, removing old 4" terra cotta as I went. I got a bit more skillful with the practice, but certainly not competent yet. I can't compare to an excavator. track hoe or tractor mounted backhoe, but I can say the rig beat the stuffing out of a mattock and shovel. And I didn't have to rent anything or pay anyone. With backfilling, etc., and a bit of mowing, I put 5 hours on the 1845.
Hans, my 100 hour service is about due, but I'll resist posting seven copies of this.

Charlie,
How about some pictures? I have been watching the threads on the Lackender hoe, just need to find more excuses to buy one.

Charlie,
under separate cover i forwarded you my itinerary for the next few weekends. i think that the pt mower race between the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania should be held this fall.

once the final payment goes to randy lackender for our backhoe, i also will forward a copy of my pt maintenance book so he can pos. make a recommendation as how to alleviate the wierd way of the native controls of our machines.

pt acknowledged the problem last week but again no answer ... as usual.

Hans:
Keep harassing me about mounting the joystick button. I need to buy four hoses, with a couple of quick disconnects, and find a place to mount the diverter valve.

Hans, I think you'll be happy with the Lackender hoe. Like Charlie, I find that the more I use mine the more competent I become. I keep hoping I'll have time for my retaining wall and paver project; a couple of full days of digging would be a good test for me and the hoe. Right now, I'm trying to get a warehouse built at our store. We had snow on the mountains this morning; so I'm racing to beat winter.

I'll be interested to see what you guys come up with concerning the controls challenge. I'm still using my temporary lever extension; it sure beats the standard setup. Charlie's system sounds good too. I'm looking forward to a report when it's installed.

Well, duty calls; off to service the coil roofing nailer. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Great to hear from you. i have had a lengthy discussion with Shawn and Terry at pt today about the aux. hydraulic lever/control. Shawn is going to talk to his engineering people.

Randy lackender as i posted before will look at my copy of the pt425 manuel to see if he can make some suggestions.

well that thing came by land and on time (do you get the slight undertone of disgust). it was rather easy to assemble. all i needed was the tips to hook up the hoses. the hydraulic store, also my kuboto dealer, closes exactly at five pm so after a day of aerating with my pt i rushed to get the necessary tips. two minutes before five i arrived got the tips and the Teflon to make everything nice and tight.

i mounted the tips and tested the lakender back hoe ... it went up at half trottle .. it (the bucket with two teeth) came down almost between the front tires ... but the bucket ain't curling .... well i guess my trip to Charlie did not help. i was so impressed with his red button to curl the bucket i totally forget to see how it should be hooked up....

i was sitting after they closed, at my kuboto dealer on my pt425, which was tied down to the trailer, ramp up, disgusted ... JUST PICTURE THIS ....
the bucket went up and down but no curling action ... i know the people were thinking this guy lost it.

so home i went and called Dr. Charlie Pter, in now time at least mentally, my backhoe is now working. all i need is the right tips attached to the right hoses, no different than my grapple bucket.

i think i will love my lackender backhoe.

More Tomorrow when i have the right tips attached to the right hoses. Boy do i feel stupid.

Hi Hans,

Looking forward to your stories using the hoe. How do you swing from side to side to empty the bucket. Do you use the articulated steering to move to the side?

Good luck and have fun
Duane

Duane,
that is correct, and that is why i have to have Charlie's red button (additional valve and electronic override) because it is very odd and slow to operate a hoe with the auxiliary lever being the main control down below your right knee. we will see tonight how it all goes . i am picking up the proper tips this morning, but like a little kid t x-mas i have to wait till tonight to use the hoe.
