Tractor
Kubota B7100D
I purchased my B7100d w/ FEL in April of 2005 for $800.00. I really didn't think I actually needed a tractor, but for the money I figured I could always get my money back. Little did I know that 6 months later a woman named (hurricane) Rita would storm through our back yard and give me plenty of reasons. I heard the tree break and just new that my tractor was crushed. (see picture under name) To my surprise, the FEL arms protected the hood and engine. After the storm I heard many people were paying as much as 2-3K dollars to have a single tree removed from their yard. I had 2 large trees down and 2 acres of limbs and debris to clean. I was amazed at the amount of work I was able to do with such a small tractor and a FEL. Sure could have used a PTO generator though.

Yeah, I know! A new pole building is in the works. Just have to budget these things. I've managed to get a lean-to built now till the pole barn can be erected. Sometimes things happen for a reason though. Had I built my pole barn then, the trees would have fallen directly on it. We have a lot full of trees, 5 live oaks 70- 100 years old (I am told). Hurricanes and trees don't mix too well down here. Just something you learn to live with, or move.

I agree, no matter the size of the mule, I have found that you can do an amazing amount of work with a tractor. When I had my old International 2WD, I thought it was great. There was no loader so my earth work was all done with the rear end. Once I replaced it with a L48, I was really doing stuff. I downsized from that to a L3830 but my work load never decreased. The smaller size and HP L3830 really did not matter, I still did the same amount of work pushing the tractor to its limits in terms of power. I really enjoy that. Its almost more fun seeing what I can get done with something small then something big.

Dr MUD I guess you really did need that tractor, and you got your money's worth.

Best place for it, that is, when you are expecting a hurricane. Put it
and all critical implements out in the middle of a field, away from
trees and buildings. even a well-constructed barn may fail or be
crushed by a tree during this type of violent weather. The tractor
and implements will be of no use if you cannot get to them or they
are damaged

My local Kubota/Case dealer had a lot full of brand new tractors when Rita
came through. He said the damage was limited to one Kubota with a broken
window from flying debris. The Cases were ok (all two of them). He is
a major dealer in the area and had dozens of Kubotas (subcompacts through large utility tractors) on the lot when Rita came through. He is located 10 miles east of where the eye-wall
came through. The airport across the street recorded 120mph sustained winds.
