I'll likely use those nifty rafter screws if I build a new house. I'd love to be able to rent one of the tools for installing them: not sure what they're called.

It’s required by code to use those or a metal bracket to accomplish the same job just about everywhere now.

No the ones specifically intended for anchoring trusses have a smaller head.

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever think/want to just toe-nail (minimum of brackets- just makes sense). But...

I also figure I'll be utilizing energy trusses and longer sheathing sheets (one manufacturer calls them "Tall Wall" panels). I'd think it would/should be the only way to go for high wind locations:

Interesting videos, those deckmate screws were impressive. I'd like to see the nail pull test with the nails driven at a 30 degree angle and with the old hook trick where the first 1/2 inch or so of the nail is bent so the nail curves when driven into the wood.
