Shopping Amazon's prices pays off. Just today I needed Sika product. Lowes was 1/2 the price as amazon. So off to Loews again. I always check the reviews on Amazon stuff and tend to avoid the cheaper stuff due to adverse reviews.

It seems that many Amazon shoppers are hooked on Amazon, and rarely if ever, investigate other options.
Amazon, is somewhat like alcohol or a drug.

Nah it is all about efficiency, cost, and availability. if I can get it quicker, cheaper, and they actually have it in stock then it just makes sense.

However I should also say I usually look at local first. If I can price match I will. If it is close I get it at local.

I'm not one of those folks (though I agree they are out there). I use Amazon as a base price, then shop around for most items.

What we like about Prime is the TV part more than the fast shipping. For most things, I don't mind waiting on regular shipping.....very few times overnight or 2nd day is that big a deal. We both use Kindles to read books from our local library, and Amazon makes that handy to do.

I did order a set of new cables for my golf cart the other day when I replaced locally bought batteries. The battery place wanted to sell me standard 6ga replacement cables, and for the same price, ($25)I got some really nicely made 4ga cables off Amazon. Ordered them on a Wednesday afternoon, got them Friday morning UPS 2nd day air......I have to wonder HOW the heck Amazon does that.....I'd think 2nd day air shipping alone would eat most of 25 bucks.

I received a email from the VA telling me about this. I used the link from that to get the discount.
You should go directly to Amazon help (call) and have someone help walk you thru it.

Yeah.....you'd think that would work, huh ? Nope. After a while on the phone, the lady's final suggestion was cancel my current Prime account with refund of remaining time and then try to sign up, OR contact them by email. I have sent an email, answering all the questions of verification, PLUS I scanned in my VA photo ID card and sent 'em that on Thursday. No response as of yet.

Funny thing is I switched accounts to my wife's account, she doesn't have Prime (we use mine to order most stuff ), and registering thru HER account got me to the page of paying for it.....so if I don't hear from Amazon by the 11th, we'll use hers to sign us up.....which makes no sense as I'm the vet, yet it will 'verify' on her account. Didn't do it because we'll have to re-set TV's and Kindles to accept the Prime in her name instead of mine.

Amazon gets incredibly cheap UPS and FedEx rates.
Much better than any of us can even begin to imagine.

It has to be much much better. I ordered one of the foam mattresses and after it inflated found it was stained. I contacted amazon and they paid for the fully inflated mattress to be shipped back to them. That would normally cost as much as the mattress.

In 2018, Amazon paid $0 in U.S. federal income tax on more than $11 billion in profits before taxes. It also received a $129 million tax rebate from the federal government.

Amazon’s low tax bill mainly stemmed from the Republican tax cuts of 2017, carryforward losses from years when the company was not profitable, tax credits for massive investments in R&D and stock-based employee compensation.
Why Amazon paid no federal income tax

Amazon, so long light on profits, reported a whopping $1.86 billion in net income in the fourth quarter of 2017.

For a sense of scale, it took Amazon more than 14 years—58 quarters after its May 1997 initial public offering—to make, cumulatively, as much profit as it produced in the latest quarter alone.

Keep in mind that Amazon consistently lost money for its first several years as a public company. It first reported a quarterly profit in the fourth quarter of 2001 and, at $5 million, it barely counted. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has long maintained that investing in future growth is more important than hitting quarterly earnings targets, much to Wall Street’s chagrin.

It took Amazon (AMZN) 14 years to make as much net profit as it did in the fourth quarter of 217 — Quartz
