Amazon Prime at 40 bucks off for active military, retired, veterans

I'll agree that it's not much of a deal. However! First, it doesn't do anything for me because all I get out of prime is a day or two sooner shipping and I have lots of time, I'm not in a position to utilize the other parts of prime. Second, and this is the big one, those of us that are Vietnam Vets see the difference in the public's attitude between now and then and I, for one, certainly appreciate the difference no matter the size of the effort. Even thou I won't be making use of the discount, I certainly hope others can benefit from it.

You STOLE my response! (just kidding)

I look at both Amazon and E-Bay, and buy from the one with the best price.
Amazon charges sales tax on almost everything.
E-Bay gets sales tax on only some things.
I try to avoid sales tax whenever possible.
Nearly all E-Bay sellers offer free shipping.

I am not a panic buyer.
For Amazon items that I want, I put them in my watch list, and wait until the list qualifies for free shipping.
After ordering, sometimes Amazon will not ship for up to a week.
I either leave that order active until it ships, or cancel and order elsewhere (usually E-Bay).
If Amazon claims it is too late to cancel, and ships anyway, I simply refuse the order.

I do not choose to PAY EVEN A DISCOUNTED AMOUNT to volunteer myself as a hostage to Amazon Prime.

^^ Yeah, that's about me. I shop around for the best value. Weir thing is, Northern Tool, NewEgg and a few others also sell on e, so I can buy there for the same price as their home sites without signing up for another account.

In years past, I might have placed 20 orders on A. This last year, I think I placed one, maybe two. And the main reason for that was to use 'points' earned on the CC, which means I really got the stuff for free.

I renewed my Prime subscription last night even though normal expiration is August. I buy 95% of stuff from Amazon to the tune of about $16,000 last year. Oil, filters, grease, batteries, coffee, jeans, shirts, shoes, toys for kids, videos, printer cartridges, headphones, pesticides, fertilizer spreader, lawn sweeper, flashlights. No more trips to the store, no load and unload. Returns are easier than going to the store.
And I know, I truly do know that it is ruining things for local businesses. But it already has sorry to say. Haven’t been to a mall in 15 years.

This is not much of a deal considering other big and small companies which offer a 10% discount and sometimes more. NAPA offers that plus or Fleet discount which can be as much as 40% off counter price.

Well as a veteran I am quite thankful to Amazon for going the extra mile for us. In my world 1/3 off is huge on something I use every year. Especially since we shop Amazon a lot being rural.
With all the other discounts and specials offered on Amazon they didnt have to do rhis.
Also I am quite thankful to all the others with any discount offered for us.

You could very likely save well over one thousand dollars annually, by instead buying some of those Amazon purchased items from E-Bay, Walmart, Jet, New Egg, and any number of other online sellers.
I compare everything, and Amazon is frequently not the cheapest, for the exact same item.
I understand that Amazon is handy/easy, but there is a cost for that.

You have any trouble getting past the Verify page ? Kept giving me error message.

I received a email from the VA telling me about this. I used the link from that to get the discount.
You should go directly to Amazon help (call) and have someone help walk you thru it.

Or exactly the same and with their 'free/non prime' shipping policies, I can get it from others faster.

There have also been some recent stories about them selling 'expired' products. I don't care so much about that since often look for close or past date items in stores, then keep them for long periods before use. But that's my choice. People that don't want past dated items are getting them without choosing to.

Shopping Amazon's prices pays off. Just today I needed Sika product. Lowes was 1/2 the price as amazon. So off to Loews again. I always check the reviews on Amazon stuff and tend to avoid the cheaper stuff due to adverse reviews.

Thanks for the tip TnAndy!
