We were warned that this could be something of a rant in the intial post! I would only add that sometimes the taxes actually do some good- here in Merryland, we are about to pay $24/year for our septic systems, just as municipal system users will be charged $2/month for their hookups- but (hopefully) the funds collected will be applied to cleaning up the discharges into our Chesapeake Bay. The Bay has real problems, and fixing them (and I am making a big assumption that we want to fix them) will cost big bucks. Too many people, too much SUV traffic, too much Perf-a-lawn, and you have trouble. Hey- check out the philosophy-by-net website for this kind of discussion!
