I guess I'd better back up and state what I know. This is the way it is in OK. There's even a big ruckus between the Indians and the State to who owns my water.

Do I read your post correctly??? They want to put a meter on your well?

Don't be surpised, in the not to distant future, that your state may do exactly this.

Nothing surprises me. In some areas around here, they are charging you a yearly fee to have a septic system. Supposedly, the yearly fee is to have it inspected, but the government official types say even though they are going to collect the fee EVERY year, they are only going to perform the inspections every three to five years.

It's nothing more than a way to get sewer fees from people who don't have sewers-- just another tax...

Brian,

I went through something similar last year. I actually sent e-mail to this Kioti vendor in Ontario but never got a reply. I then drove to his place and he was pushing me more toward a TYM tractor. I was not too impressed by the environment and the financing was not good. I finally decided for the JD790 and am very pleased (I also looked at Kubota but JD had 0% for 3 years on the 790).
Three months after using the 790, I received an e-mail reply from this Kioto vendor asking if I was still looking for a tractor !

Considering where you are I'm going to believe that you may have gone to the same dealer I went to.... There aren't that many Kioti dealers in Ontario ( 4 I think) and only 1 around Ottawa.... I've looked at the 790 but to outfit it with a BH and FEL I'm close to or just over 30 depending on who you talk to...

I think I may have read somewhere that certain parts of California already tax well water. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'm not sure of it or where I read it.

It just gets absurd how the Gov't decides to go about funding itself. It would be enlightening and frightening if we ever got to the point of a flat tax at each level of government. Eliminating all these little taxes and rolling into one large payment would really clarify just how much money goes to them. Taxing the water... I don't know about you, but them putting a tax on something like that makes about as much sense to me as taxing us on our grass... "1/4 acre of Kentucky blue, oh well thats at a higher rate than the rye..." /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm going to start calling my well water "Mineral Water", that way I can claim ownership to it through the mineral rights I hold on my land. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They'll just TRUMP you with an 'eminent rights' claim. All for the Greater Good. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Yeah right! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Adam , Billy, there was legislation introduced this year in the Va General Assembly that proposed a utility tax on all customers of public water systems, with the expectation that it would be added to private wells in a year or so. Although defeated this year, look out for it in a couple of years. Proposed cost per well about $24 per year. Willie Jones

24 a year isn't that bad.. the one golf course has three wells and the meter installation was $300 each and then the cost is about $30 /well a month....

I know this is getting off topic. My God Parents from Germany visit quite frequently. We talk alot about the differences in the US and Germany. One thing they have to pay tax on is the water runoff from the roof of the house. Even if you don't "pipe" it into into the strom water drain, meaning you drain it into your lawn or keep it in barrels for watering the garden, etc. The rate is based on the total area of your roof(s). They even do random "audits" by air to make sure your honest.

Holy Cow, a German rain tax!

That is the most creative tax I have heard of in a long time. I sure hope none of our legislators hear about that. Some say they will not raise taxes, but they certainly do think of creative "fees" to charge. And for the record a "fee" is not a "tax" according to them. Go figure. Willie Jones

Think of all the hidden taxes:

Gasoline tax
Drivers registration fees (a tax)
Real estate tax
School tax
County Tax
Town Tax
Medicaid/Social Assistance Tax
Water Fees (a Tax)
Taxes on Gas/Oil for home heating
Sales Tax
Income Tax
Federal Tax
Capital Gains Tax
Hotel Tax
Gun Tax
Phone Tax
Cell Phone Tax
Airplane Tax
State Auto Inspection Fees (yes..a TAX)

Depressed yet? Get a tractor and move to the country, where...well, they tax you.

And coming soon to a locality near you...an air tax, a thinking tax, an idea tax and a "restroom fee". George Orwell would be proud!

( a thinking tax )
Well a lot of people here in fla would not have to pay that one

The tax on runoff is already in the US. It's being used to finance the new sewer requirements of the EPA. Older sewer systems are combined sewers meaning that surface runoff and sewage end up in the same system. With heavy rains many old system can't handle the flow and sewage bypasses the treatment process ending up where it's not supposed to.

To build the new sewer systems, metropolitan areas of a certain size are considering a runoff utility. One already exists in Morgantown, WV. If you don't pay the runoff bill, the ordinance allows the water utility to shutoff your service.
