Alternator problems

Hi, I'm Buck Claytor I just bought a used bolens iseki g174 2cyl and went to start it the other day and noticed that every tome I turned the switch on there was smoke coming from the alternator this just started happening an don't know why. I unhokoked the battery cable until I can find out more. Any suggestions or help

Welcome Buck. I think you have a bad regulator and maybe a bad alternator, now.
