I'm in the process of purchasing a Kubota B3030 with the 403 loader. I would like members' opinions regarding the necessity to upgrade to the 40 amp alternator. The only additional power needs I will likely have is from the installation of two 55W halogen lights for nighttime snowblowing. Thanks for your help.

Bottom line? Buy the upgrade whether you need it NOW or not. Ya cant power jack squat with the stock 14 amp thingy. I didnt...wished I had..and would have if I had know about it. Its definately something I intend on adding to mine!

May I suggest you rate the alternator for 125% of the load. Put another way the load shouldn't exceed 80% of alternator rating. No need to max it out if you don't have to.

Example: If the load will be 40 amps get an alternator rated at 50 amps.
