I have been looking at buying a tractor for some time, putting it off more times than once, coal shovel starting to get old now though. I really don't know alot about tractors, but this forum has helped tremendously. Thanks to Everybody. I have looked at bx22 $15650 with belly mower. John deer 790 $21,500 backfoe/loader, and now b7800 $20,000 bl4690 with bracket for subframe/ loader 60mmm mower. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Almost went today to order 7800. (big step for me) Mayby tommorrow. Any one else lost this much sleep reading this chat line? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Whatcha gonna do with the tractor the most? How land are you taking care of with the tractor. There's a few tractors in between the BX22 and B7800.

Shane, welcome to the forum.

Back in 2000 when I started looking, the BX22 and B7800 weren't out yet. Since I had convinced myself I wanted a backhoe, and for a variety reasons chose orange, that meant a B7500, B2410, B2710 or B2910. When push came to shove and I looked at all that money on the table, I felt the B2910 with the 7 1/2' backhoe (I got a Woods 7500) was the most bang for the buck.

I opted for the B2910 over the B2710 for some of the creature comforts, and I'm glad I got them. The telescopic lower links sure make hooking up implements a relatively painless task, and the suspension seat is also well worth it if you have any back problems. I have sometimes used the cruise control to "brake steer" when using the bucket for snow removal.

For me, I figured the extra few $$$ between the B2910 and the B2710 (and now the B7800) are well worth it over the life expectancy of the tractor.

Before you sign on the dotted line, I would at least get a quote on the same package with a B2910.

Whatever you get, it'll sure beat a shovel!

Good Luck,

~Rick

I am toying over the same problem, for right now the BX22 will do, but down the road with a new house and large land I might want a larger tractor? Im glad Im not the only one with these questions/problems.

You've got a pretty broad range of models listed there. If you're doing a lot of mowing, I hear the BX series is top notch. If you want to do a lot of digging, the B7800 would probably be better, although for that kind of $$$ you really should check out the slightly larger tractors. Can't give you much advice on the JD (don't know the models), but what I found is that for equivilant models the JD was a bit more $$$.

Best question so far is, "what are you going to do with it?"

I live on a hill with about 33 acres mostly hillside 900 foot of drive, 1500 feet or more of ditches to keep clean. Need to dig a water line up the drive. maby 3 acres to mow. gravel parking lot to grade.like to have a garden as well. Snow removal for winter time. I guess that is just a start. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They told me the 2910 would be about $1400 more. I have already jump up quit a bit from the bx22, don't know if I can stand much more. (or should I say wife). I also need to fill in my yard more and redig some septic lines.

Wow...that sounds like a really good price for the b7800 with loader, back hoe and MMM.

Let us know if that is what it ends up being if you do get the B7800...If I remember right I paid a bit over 24K for about the same thing, but b2819 with an extra backhoe bucket and tooth bar...last summer....

I did not have the option of a subframe for the backhoe...it was a 3ph mount last year...

I hope he did'nt make a mistake. One dealer did quote 22,650 but with a 6 1/2 bushhog backhoe. I will let you know for sure.

Sounds like a good price on the 7800 package. I was quoted $23, 286 for a similarly configured package (exception was this included a Woods 6500 backhoe).
