that's why it's good to have a tail gate or rear of bed with relief for the gooseneck.

Or a flatbed, or even better a hauler bed. But then you can't just chuck stuff in there, it has to be tied down. I have the GN adjusted all the way down on my equipment trailer behind a Dodge dually flatbed. Even with the ball well the trailer is a little too high in front. I just replaced the worn out 7.50 G rated tires with 225/90-16 G's. They're a little taller and that helped. I've read that the rear of the truck can be lowered 1.5" by moving the bottom blocks (actually spacers) to the top of the spring pack. That way the original u-bolts can still be used. It's a 2wd truck and sits nose-low anyway (especially with the bags pumped up), so I may do the mod.

i have a custom hauling bed on my F450 ( fiberglass ). It has very low sides. in fact, the sides are only just above the built in fenderwells by a couple inches. has a bit of a body lift too, and the rear has a scoopout for the GN drop tounge.

have 5th wheel rails and a GN adapter.

I would have likely preferred a flatbed, since i can't just go get a single bail of hay in the back, but instead have to hitch the trail and haul none or all.
