How many taps do you run? That evaporator is bigger than our county parks' /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We have some maples that won't be large enough to tap for 10-15 years(as I'm told by the people that tap regularly). That's fine because I want to tap them after I retire in 15-25 years. There are probably a hundred or so of them on 2-3 acres. They are on a nice slope and it will be easy to pipe them to a central tank. I plan on making enough syrup for family and friends. Hopefully between now and then I'll either find a small used evaporator, or I'll learn to weld stainless and make our own.

Hi Mossroads, Thanks. My rig is considered to be small to most people but big enough for me. Once your up to speed they say it will boil 25 gallons of sap an hour. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll run 70 taps this year and expand to 125 next year. I want one season under my belt before I drown myself in sap. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I do it for fun and family but do sell some also. Hopefully lookin at around 15-20 gallons this year.
The nice thing you have is time to look around. That's what I did. You can find some really nice used ones out there especially when your not in a hurry.
