My tractor is 13 years old and has never missed a beat. However recently the air restriction trouble light has been coming on. I replaced the filters. Still on. I replaced the sensor. Still comes on. The tractor runs fine. The light is not always solid and it will flicker. I’m not much of a mechanic, I’m really just a low end parts changer so I’m not good at diagnosing problems. Wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue. Thanks.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Have you checked the air 'exit thingy'? On my 4105 it's that rubbery 'slit' air exhaust that occasionally needs to be 'burped' and/or wiped out.

Battery old, perhaps? Weak battery can manifest in weird sensor issues...

Since you replaced the sensor, the next thing to look at would be to look at where the sensor signal goes and what it does. If yours is like other JDs of that era, all the temperature and pressure sensors connect first with the engine computer through a multipin plug. From there, the computer decides about trouble lights. I don't even know if your model has an engine computer, but my 2006 model JD does have that engine computer computer in spite of being individual injection. The computer is about the size of a small book and bolts to the frame somewhere. A bunde of colored run to the connector. Computer & connector are a known source of problems.

So after the sensor, the deaer old me the thing to check is the wiring harness for abrasions and then connections including that multipin connection to the the engine computer. On ours all our lights and gauges started working irratically in spite of running perfectly. It was the computer but the dealer said half the time the problem is in worn wiring of that multipin connector. The connector is held onto the computer by a screw in the middle. Easy to take it off and reseat it.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for not responding sooner. Had to deal with an illness and couldn’t stand long enough to work on it. I’m gonna check out The tractor using your replies and I’ll get back with you.

Just to make sure I’d check the entire intake tube/hose before the air filter to make sure mice haven’t been in there.

Due to back problem, I haven’t been able to work on it in well over a week so I haven’t checked everything yet. I had cleaned out the filter housing but I will definitely take a little more thorough look. I have been wondering about the long tube after the filter but Id like to get a scope. Thank you for your response.
