I put up a post the other day about an odd noise on my 1641. This is a follow up.

I went to check the fluid in the hydro and it appears the last couple of inches of the dipstick are gone. There is a clean break.

Possibly the noise I hear when I first start off is the broken piece inside the hydrostatic trans?

Should I be pulling this apart looking for it?

This might be out of my league.

Thanks...

Well Bob one thing you can try is to drain the hydro and check the strainer if it has one then blow some compressed air in there to see if you can blow that piece out. It's not going to be easy.

Start by jacking up both rear wheels to see if you can hand manipulate the piece out by rotating the tires...use a hooked hanger that kind of thing. Good luck and report back.

Bob, I would try the easiest thing first. Get a flexible magnet and poke around in the fill hole and see if you can catch anything. Worth a try.
