Guys: I need some level-headed advice regarding a couple of dealership issues. First one: My RTV1140 CXP developed a coolant leak at the 4 hour mark. Brought it back to the dealer ( 60 mile round trip). The dealership fixed the leak under warranty but charged me $11:00 to fefill the antifreexe (1 gallon). They said coolant itself was not covered under warranty. I let it slide in an effort to maintain a good relationship. Second Issue: Just brought home a KX-018. After getting home and starting to use the machine the the metal cylinder that hold the bucket in place came loose because the tech who preped the machine did not put in the retaining pin. Now I am stuck because I do not have the rifht tools and expertise to fix the issue. Photo. below
Suggestions on how to handle this? The sales guy told me to fix it myself but as I said, I tried and do not have the expertise.

I will have to say I am really depressed about thid

It's true about the antifreeze, but a little "bad-will" sticks in the throat for too long.

You won't get the $11. back, but you need to share your disappointment with the manager, especially if it is the same dealer you got the excavator.

If I can tell from the picture correctly, take just enough of the machine weight off of the pin where the pin looks like it wiggles. Take a hammer and pound it back in place. Install the retainer.

My dealer had to repair a coolant leak on my BX25 with only a few hours on it and he didn't charge me for antifreeze. If the leaks was no fault of yours it should have been covered in my opinion. Tractor Tech's advice about taking the weight off the bucket seems pretty good to me. Id try that first. It also couldn't hurt to let the manager know you were underwhelmed with the level of service you got.

Brand new machine with 4 hours develops a coolant leak? I don't think the dealer should have charged you a dime, and should have given you a hat or something... That would leave a real sour taste in my mouth out of general principal..

Tell the owner how you feel. If he/she doesn't agree with you then say Thanks, I'll buy online from now on and encourage my friends to also do so and hang up or leave if it's face to face. It's not the $11 but a bad dealership in my opinion, especially if the owner feels they did good.

I understand the dealer's point of view...
On my tractor the sticker is still on it that states warranty issues regarding transportation of the unit to and from the dealer is not covered...
But...
If I was a dealer that antifreeze would have been put in gratis...
He made profit charging you $11 for that gallon of antifreeze...
Take the weight off the bucket and you should be able to drive the pin in...

$11.00 for coolant, reminds me of that saying: it's not the elephants that kill you in life, it's the gnats.
I would oil or grease that pin up before I tried to send it in.
Good luck.

Thanks Everyone. I went back to the dealer this morning. A tech inserted the retaining pin. It is the type of pin that is oversized and designed not to come out. For him with the right tools it took 5 minutes. A spoke with the sales guy about the coolant. The RTV that I brought in for warranty repair came from another dealership and they said if I bought it from them there would not have been a charge. The RTV1140 came from another dealer because I needed one within a day and my dealership did not have one in stock. I am not looking to have the red carpet rolled out but I did just purchace 2 RTV1140s, a RTV 900 a KX121 and a KX018. Perhaps Now I will get better warranty assistance.

Please don't take this in a bad way. With that much equipment, it sounds to me like you need to learn how to deal with little problems, such as beating a pin back in. Otherwise ~70% of your time and ~99% of your money will be spent at the dealer.

Thanks DT68. I realize my mechanical limitations and I keenly observe everything that is done to my machines so that I can do it myself nextime. I have a lot to learn and this board helps me daily. I just get frustrated when things that should have been done at the realership are not done right. Guess if I want it done right I need to do it myself.

I find this to be the case more and more all the time!

Several years ago we bought 8 new rake wheels for our V-rake instead of replacing individual teeth one at a time. Well, about 20 minutes into the first field I noticed it was doing a terrible job of raking hay. It was already missing about five teeth on each wheel! I called the place we'd bought them from to gripe a little and the guy said I was supposed to tighten them all individually before I used them! I was so mad! I thought the whole reason to buy new was so I didn't have to worry about stuff breaking or randomly coming apart. I honestly think the nuts were finger tight and then the paint was holding them on.

Not to mention what those teeth might do to the bailer if they are mixed in with the hay...
