Adding PTO logsplitter to MF1230 with loader

I am looking for info on locating a hyd feed for the logsplitter. I checked the control for the bucket and noticed a plugged port on the side of the control marked "BYD" Can I tap into this with a hose back to the logsplitter control and then another hose to the return? If so, does the control handle for the bucket need to be activated orjust in neutral.

You should have been using the PB from the valve to feed the 3pt. With all returns going to tank.

Where did the return/OUT line go?

Your flow path should be something like this.

Pump to loader,to 3pt, to tank.

If you install a QD on the line from the loader valve and run it to the back, then you can plug in your log splitter.

When not using the log splitter, connect the QD to the 3pt input.

With all valves in neutral, fluid is always flowing through all valves.

Thanks JJ for the quick reply. I had checked with a MF Dealer on installing a remote hyd port at the back of the tractor, he quoted a price of $1200 just for the parts. It looks like I can get the hoses and connectors from Tractor Supply for about $300, so I will go that route.

Make sure you have a decent flow rate 8+GPM, otherwise you may just want to buy the PTO pump and kit and run it that way instead of off your hydraulics. It may be a waste of money to plum it to the rear if flow is low.

He only has a 5.2 GPM.

However prince makes a LSR-3060-3 valve that works like regen to speed up splitting times.

FUNCTION:
The Prince LSR-3060-3 log splitter valve features an extremely
fast “Rapid Extend” high speed mode. The LSR
has been specifically designed to reduce system costs by
allowing a single stage pump to be used in systems currently
using two stage (hi-low) pumps. When extra splitting
force is required, the LSR allows the user to manually shift
form high speed mode to high force mode. A “soft stop”
differentiates between high force and high speed modes.
Laboratory testing has not shown a significant difference
in working cycle times between single stage/rapid extend
systems and two stage systems. (Working cycle is the
average time between extending the cylinder to split the
first log and extending to split the next log after the split
wood has been removed and a new log has been placed
on the log splitter.)

Those PTO pumps also run about $470.

Should I get the 540 rpm model or the one that increases the pto speed?

Some tractors have two or three PTO speeds, so get the pump that requires the HP that your tractor can provide.

This pump should work.
