Greetings all,

i am converting my steering to power via a hydraulic steering cylinder with a priority flow control valve which is supposed to give my steering hydraulic priority over my existing front end loader.

i am doing this on an older IH B414. I guess all B414's are older aren't they?

can anyone tell me where the ports are supposed to be connected to on my new priority flow contol valve.

Its a Prince model RD400-R

The ports are labelled as follows

IN
PRIORITY
EXCESS FLOW
TANK

i am trying to plumb this into my existing front end loader controls.

If anyone could perhaps post a rough sketch or perhaps just an explanation, this would be greatly appreciated.

Logically, flow from the pump goes to the IN port of the RD400R first.

There is a relief for the priority circuit and the relief output goes to tank. It is factory set at 1500 psi.


The number to the right of the 400R, is the GPM for the priority flow. This will determine how fast the steering will operate.

Priority goes to the steering control valve. You always want steering.

If your priority valve is 2 GPM and the hyd pump is a 10 GPM, then the priority will always get the first 2 GPM, and the FEL will get the rest of the pump flow. Pump volume is determined by the engine rpm. At idle or slow and steering, you may not have flow to the FEL.

Excess flow goes to the IN port of the FEL valve.

Tank goes to any tank return line.

That is my interpretation.

Your interpretation looks pretty good to me.


i was under the false impression that the priority valve inlet was in parrallell with the inlet of the FEL controls

i am going to move my B414 into the 19 century now, man is it going to be a pleasure to drive then. Hopefully i can then convince my wife to drive the tractor.
