<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=336421"/> Mount up that baby and you will be the envy of all the other TBN'ers

I started looking for a good place to mount the horn and to my surprise, there was a perfect spot just below the air cleaner. The mounting bolt even fit into the pre-threaded hole in the cross brace. I'm guessing this is a standard bracket used on cab models and they mount the standard Kubota horn there. The Strebel horn bolt just happens to be the same size.

I did a quick test on the horn sound and it is definitely LOUD! Time to run the wiring.

Your thread convinced me to install one of these horns on each of our tractors and one on our Polaris Ranger. Best Internet price I found, without spending a lot of time, was here; http://ridesafer.com/index.php/h0014-cah.html Horn and wiring kit for $46. Ordered this morning. If they work well, will order one for our F-350 truck to use when we get stuck behind two Prius' going 15 mph under speed limit side by side on Interstate 10.

Received my horns this week. Vendor was out of the standard units and upgraded my order to the chrome units at no cost as they were out of stock on standards. Have to make angle bracket for Polaris Ranger, the first install. Will send some feedback after install.

I had just put on a horn on my B26 last week. I was wandering around my shop looking for something to do and found an old car horn that I had removed a while back from a golf cart. Tested it and it worked so I figured why not try to put it on the B26 because it has a horn button in the center of the light switch but no sound when pressed. I removed some panels, raised the hood, removed the switch and found the wire location on the switch. The wires went into a wiring bundle and I couldn't find where the connection went from that point. SOOO, I got my trusty soldering iron out, soldered a wire to the switch location and ran a new wire to the front of the tractor in front of the radiator. I found a good spot that was easy access that the horn would fit and face the front hood screen and securely fastened it with a self tapping screw. It works perfectly and only took about half an hour to install including the search for wiring and soldering the connection. If I ever find the wiring harness connection, perhaps I will install a different tone horn to have a melodious horn rather than the single note. It seems to be plenty loud to attract attention as it is, perhaps not like the air horn, but the cost was right FREE>

Rick,

Have you tested the horn yet? If not, put some ear plugs in! Haha. You'll have to find a spot that shows off that chrome now! Make sure you post some pics of your install.

Happy honking!

Gary,

I'm a bit jealous that your B26 came with a horn button. Still trying to figure out where I will install mine on the 3540. I have decided to add another auxiliary fuse block to handle this and some other mods that I am planning. This way, it will keep my battery connections nice and clean. It's has slowed me down a bit, but I'll be glad to have the extra fused circuits when I'm finished.

Happy honking to you as well!

Well, I know this thread is about a horn install, but since I was waiting on some extra parts to arrive I decided to add another item to the 3540. Most of my mods have been electrical so far (except my bucket hooks), but this is one I've been wanting to do for several weeks after seeing 4shorts add them to his new BX - mirrors.

I had some 2x2 angle iron left over from my aux light mounts, so I made up a couple of brackets, drilled and tapped some holes in the FEL support arms and mounted up a pair of mirrors. Here's some pics

Hats off to 4shorts again for another inspired mod!

Gary, that button on the light switch that barely moves when you press it actually is a horn button? I just figured it was a cap of some sort. mines a B2620, yours ?

Paul,

At this point, I'm glad I choose the L series for all the work I've put it through. Still trying to catch up to your BX though in terms of mods - like I'll ever get there! Haha

Hope all is well and thanks for viewing the thread - means a lot. Regarding the credit - was always taught to give credit where credit is due, and you're certainly due the credit for my mods ,

Take care,

Haven't posted in a while because I've been looking for a good 12v aux power hub as well as a horn button that I could live with being mounted to the dash of my L3540 without it looking too much like an aftermarket product. Here's what I ended up ordering:

Should arrive around mid-week, then I can complete the horn wiring as well as have a nice setup for adding more electronic accessories in the future. The PowerHub was a bit pricey, but I'm sure I'll be happy with its nice clean installation.

Tee;

Can you share your source? Mostly interested in your button but, would like to understand your power hub as well.

Thanks

Rick, No problem. The horn button was sourced from Amazon - just search for 12v horn button. Found the same one on fleabay for twice the price. The PowerHub is actually designed for a motorcycle which is why it has such a nice clean look when installed. That's what attracted me to it because I wanted something that would look like it was installed at the factory. I sourced it from Twisted Throttle online. I'll take some pics after I'm done with the wiring, so you all can decide if I achieved my objective.

Since I'm adding addition fuses, I decided to go ahead and add a 12v power outlet. I saw how someone else on TBN used the existing hole near the seat, so I decided to try it as well and it's nearly a perfect fit. Not sure what this hole is for, but it was from the factory and came with a rubber cover over it. Just popped off the cover, inserted the outlet and tightened up the nut underneath. Will use one of the 10amp circuits on the new PowerHub once it is installed.

Now I'll be able to add a portable strobe or bring along my phone car charger.

Could have been me as I did the exact same thing three years ago :), It is the hole for the mid pto kit control if you have a Grand L40 like I do.

Norm,

I think it was you! Thanks for the great idea and for clearing up the mystery about this hole. Makes a lot of sense now that you mention it.

Ok, finally got all the electrical parts in and had some time to get everything wired up. Here's where I ended up putting the horn button.

I like the placement and although I doubt anyone would think this is a "factory" location for a horn button, it seems to work pretty well for me.

The most difficult part of this project has been deciding where to place the aux fuse box. I wanted a location that would be easily accessible, somewhat protected from the elements and have enough room for a neat and tidy wiring setup. I ended up putting it under the hood and just in front of the gas tank. Here's a few pics of the work in progress.

I'll post a few more pics when I have all the split loom on and everything secured how I want it.

Wrapped up this project today. What started out as a simple horn install ended up being a bit more, including:

- new Strebel air horn (very loud)
- new horn button
- new aux fuse box
- new 12v power outlet
- new rear view mirrors with custom brackets

Here's the final pic of how the aux fuse box ended up.
