Adding 62D mower to a 2320 advice needed please.

I just put a deposit on a nice low hour private party unit that has never had a mid mount mower installed. :thumbsup:

I was wondering if anyone has undertaken the process of installing the mower without taking the tractor to a dealer. I see that Mutton Equip sells the mower and what I would assume is the complete mounting hardware specifically for the 2320. The lift arms are on the tractor already I assume and would only need the attaching hardware. I understand that I need the 62D1 deck specifically.

One of my concerns is all the discussion surrounding the mechanical deck lift and the independent lift. I think I would be happy with the mechanical lift as I don't foresee locking the deck up for use with the 3 point hitch to be a problem.


My other concern is the problems that seem to be apparent with the deck height adjustment mechanism. Is this enough of an ongoing issue that you would recommend having a dealer install the mid mount mower so I have support in that arena.

If you are confident in your skills at turning a wrench I think you would easily be able to handle this task on your own. The owners manual that you get with your mower should take you step by step all the way through assembly, installation and removal. I know the manuals for my JD loader and backhoe for my 4310 even went as far to properly uncrate the implements.

As for attaching hardware. I would guess that your JD dealer would have to order that separately. Shouldn't be too hard thing to figure out though. Send some picks of the undercarriage and show them what you go and they can go from there.

As for independant or mechanical lift. I would just start with the mechanical and go from there. You can always add the independent later if you like. Plus I believe the independent has its own separate hydraulics so it's probably a pricey add on that you might not even need.

As for the deck adjustment mechanism I haven't heard too much about it on the JD forum but I don't doubt you. You best bet on that is to ask Mutton's if they have seen any issues with it or if there is a TSB out for the deck height adjustment. They move a lot of JD tractors so I'm guessing if it is a common problem they have seen it. The biggest issue I have seen people complain about with the MMM is that the linkage hangs low when the mower is off and no factory way to keep it propped up.

Thanks for the response I can turn a wrench okay if it's just a matter of hooking up bolt on brackets etc.. I'm just unsure of the details and if there are any additional concerns. I've looked at the manual and makes it sound like there are no additional considerations as if all I need is the proper deck. I will call my dealer if I don't hear from someone who has done this first hand.

I was digging through jdparts and these parts and the deck seem to be all I would need, I think I have these parts already on the tractor but will have to wait until I get the tractor home to be sure.

Why not just keep the x500 for mowing? I recently bought a used 455 because I was tired of switching between the MMM and FEL all the time.

I'll be keeping the x500 for part of my mowing and 2320 will be used fairly routinely for driveway maintenance (gravel and snow). I have some rougher parts of my yard/field that beat the x500 and my back while testing the longevity of the X500. I think I could benefit from the longer wheelbase and larger tires. I wont be using the loader etc enough to justify owning the CUT without having it taking on some of the mowing capacities. I currently keep 5 acres mowed per her request but I will be testing the wife approval factor with a brush hog cut of the grass before I go all in on the 62D.

There's a member on GTT that has a LVB25620 2320 Mower attaching parts kit for sale. It's new and unused and you'll need it if you pick up a 62D1 for your new 2320. He also has the LVB25630 Independent Lift Kit which would nice a nice option as well.

I took my time, and looked thru google images to find pics of the mechanical lift that I could zoom in on to see how and where the brackets went. It was super simple, but I know the 2320 mount is different. I was nervous installing it, so I went super slow and cautious. If you had a book or install guide, you could be done in a hour or so if you wanted to hurry. I just wanted to make sure I had everything right! I spent a lot of the time looking at pics online, so it took extra time, but in the end it works perfect and I'm soooo glad I bought it!

I bought a 2013 62D2 with about 5-10 hours on it for $1,300 including ALL the mechanical lift! My 2520 mows like crazy with it, but the JD blades are not the best. They have little lift, so they let stuff behind and the discharge plugs in really tall damp grass. I have Gator blades to try next!

I did spend a half day cleaning the deck, and doing maintenance on it. I used a wire wheel on the bottom of the deck and then Painted it with POR-15. The factory didn't paint the bottom of the 62D for whatever reason.....

Thanks, I pm the guy this morning. I mistakenly bought a 62d2 version with all the attaching hardware. I hoping if I buy this kit I can see what I need to convert the deck over to a 62d1 version
