Those pumps are way to slow.
It would take one of them 22 minutes to fill my Bx23 5.5 gallon tank.

I like the idea of the Northern Tool pump, but it's more difficult to remove the battery cover to get access to the battery and to clip the battery clips on the terminals than it's worth.

What would be a great improvement would be a 2 pin flat plug prewired on my batteries into my battery box that would plug into a 2 pin flat connector on the pump. THAT would be the ticket.

I have a couple of electric train transformers from toy trains back in the 50s and 60s.
You know like the Lionel Trains used!
All I have to do is clip the 2 pump clips onto the 2 transformer terminals and turn the pump switch on.
To fill the tractor tank all I need to do is plug the transformer cord into an electrical wall outlet in the pole building and start filling the tractor tank.
Once the tank's filled simply unplug the transformer from the wall plug.
I just tried one of the transformers out and it works great as a power source for the pump.

A 110 to 12 volt transformer from Radio Shack or Walmart would work for a power source for the pump also.
You could wire the transformer 12 volt outlet wires directly to the pump wires or you could install some sort of mating connector such as the 2 pin plug / connector you mention if you desire to be able to disconnect the pump and transformer from each other.
I would leave the pump switch on and just unplug the transformer from the wall plug after each use.

Nice ideas, but I'm usually refueling on the jobsite, so I need a portable power source. I wonder if I could wire the pump to a cig lighter adapter and just run the pump off a cig lighter or 12V accessory outlet.

That would make it all worthwhile to lug that extra junk around in my truck.

Yes you can adapt it to a cigarette lighter if this is convenient for you. Typically the lighter has a 20 amp fuse in line which is plenty for the Northern diesel fuel pump.

Yeah, but what about splicing the wires? I would need to somehow cut the battery clamps off the pump, then adapt the wires to a 12V accessory plug.

You could simply cut the clamps off the pump wires strip both wires then cut the plug off the accessory end of the cig lighter accessory outlet wires, not the plug that you plug into the cig lighter socket but the smaller plug for the accessory.
Next twist I pump wire and 1 accessory wire together and tape with electrical tape,
Now do the same with the other 2 wires.
This would more or less be a permanent connection between the pump and the accessory outlet.
If you want to rig it up for easy separation of the pump and the cig lighter accessory outlet simply install any mating female and mail plugs one on the accessory outlet wires and the other on the pump wires.
You could buy a mail and a female extension cord plug and install one on the pump wires and the other one on the accessory outlet wires.
Here is a crude but workable way to connect the pump wires to the accessory outlet wires.
Simply put 2 alligator clamps on the accessory outlet wires.
Tale a short piece of 2x4 or 2x6 and put 2 wood screws in the board leaving them stick up and inch or two.
Clip an alligator clip to the bottom of each screw then clamp the pump clamps to the screws above the alligator clamps.

I think what I'd do is take a 12v. accessory plug and splice the wires from it to the pump directly that way I can plug it into the backhoe, dumptruck or pickup to fuel the backhoe from containers on the ground instead of holding them up on the front tire.

I'd really like a fuel cell mounted on the frame of my dumptruck that can hold 50G of off-road diesel.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you are saying here. It looks like you are saying getting a 110v to 12 volt transformer and just use that for powering the pump. The would not work you still have ac out of the transformer. You would have to get a 110v to 12 volt power supply to do that. You could get the parts to add to the transformer and make it into a power supply but either way you do it you have to change the ac to dc before you hook the pump up to it.

I'd like to offer my humblest apology; didn't mean to steal your thunder. After reading a few posts, I was anxious to share my, uh.., OUR idea, and jumped to the end to add my, uh.., OUR thoughts, apparently skipping your post.

Actually I cannot take any credit for this idea, because:
(1) You posted it ahead of me
(2) At my previously mentioned workplace, company pickups were already rigged with the pump setup prior to my transfer there.

My reason for not rigging one up sooner, is the fill-up time. For our needs, a high volume, low pressure pump would be more desirable. The pumps we used at work filled test tubes, not fuel tanks.
One of the units I found, and linked to was rated @ 110gph, meaning approx. 3 minutes to fill my TC33; I find that appealing, considering after filling with the dreaded Blitz can, 3 more minutes are probably spent cleaning spilled diesel. Out of habit, I park near a water hose to fuel up.

If you are asking about the pumps that Gemini, and I were referring to, they are actually automotive fuel pumps, which I think means they were designed to pump gasoline. Naturally an inquiry placed to the manufacturer, or at the place of purchase would be wise.

LBrown59, that is a nice looking pump, but is it small enough to be mounted, plumbed, and hardwired onto a CUT? I'd like to eliminate having to drag it out, and hookup wires @ every fuel up.

Droy please dont apologize. Some of the people in this thread were on another thread that I posted to. I cut and pasted a link to a definition in wikipedia. I forgot to include the link to give credit to wikipedia when I posted that defintion. Someone got pretty ugly about it in their post about me. My comment in this post was just to make an insider joke among the people that had read the other thread.
I have certainly posted without reading all the posts in a long thread. Your comments were certainly valid. The last time I looked I dont have any kind of copyright on good ideas. I do not use my fuel pump any more because my tank is down about waste level on my montana. As I recall the fuel pump I used was a high performance pump and did not take long to fill my tank. I actually think if someone dont mind spending the money that the pump Lbrown posted information about would be a really good way to go.

I looked at the automotive pumps, but how fast can they move fuel. A gal a minute or less? If they move a gal a minute that would take about 15 minutes to fill the tank on my Ford. May not be faster but much easier on the back.
