Ok....well actually it does...I need my tractor to carry the pump and engine to the bulkhead.... Heres the deal....I have a bulkhead that is failing and I need to replace some of the pileings. I have a circulating pump and moter that I used to jet some sheeting down about 30 years ago. The engine was an used for an emergency bildge pump for the Navy and they lost the gas tank cap so they threw it out...my dad scavanged it off the trash pile. It was a great engine in its time but it has been sitting idle for thirty years and the inside of the gas tank is coated with rust, the muffler is gone, it wieghs a TON, etc. So I am going to replace the engine with a 5hp and the problem is that the current engine has a 1" shaft (I think) and I would like to re-use the pullies so I need to find a 5hp horizontal shaft engine with a 1" shaft...any ideas??? Thanks guys!

I will have to check my briggs dealer books, i am sure briggs had an engine with a 1inch output shaft. If not i am sure you can find a new pully. How ever i suggest seeing about getting that engine running, a new engine is going to cost you a ton more then you expect.

I thought about rebuilding it and I may at some point, but for this application I really need something not quite so heavy. LEt alone the fact I am pretty sure I would have to tear the entire fuEL system apart including the carb.....I wonder if I can even get parts for it any more. I have prIced engiens in tHE 5hp range and it appears as though I can get one for between 2 and 3 hundred...but I don't know that I can find one with a one inch shaft for that....guess I'll find out....thaNks for taking the time to respond!

Any machine shop can make up a bushing that will increase the size of an output shaft to fit your pulley.

Is the output shaft just round, or is it splined or keyed? If just plain round, then CurlyDave's suggestion is the most straightforward. There may be commercial, sized adaptors available for splined or keyed shafts.

That appears to be a wedge lock type pulley. Just get new hub for your new engine shaft size and reuse pulley. Remove the two small bolts from the hub and put them in the other two holes. when you tighten them down they will push the pulley off the hub. Surplus Center usually has a large sellection of hubs.

That pulley looks like it has a bolt on bushing adapter. If thats the case all you need to do is get a new bushing for that style pulley. I know there are different types of center bushings, like SDS and SK, but I'm not sure which type you need.

Thanks for all the responses. I got it apart and it is indeed a 1" shaft. However, I think I can get a new hub. The inside of teh pully with the hub removed is 1.25". However in looking at this thing, I am not sure that the size pully I have is correct. On the engine it's a hair over 8" in diameter and on the pump it's just about 4 inches. The current engine states a WOT of 2800 rpms (it's 7 hp, not 5 like I stated eariler). Now....if the pully on the pump is half the size of the one on the moter, doesn't that double the rpm's? Isn't 5600 rpms a bit FAST for that pump? I would have GUESSED it should be around 1800 or so. Any thoughts???

Actually, a machine shop can make an adaptor for a keyed shaft also.

A splined shaft adaptor would be more difficult and more expensive, but still feasible.

I have a 5 HP B/S engine that has a 1" shaft came off a Chipper Shredder. if that will help. you might look in that area.
