Re: Greetings from santa and his Kubota

Yea Harv ain't Christmas great!!! I had to put together 4 bikes, lucky I had metric sockets, wrenches and metric allen keys. So it didn't take to long once I got started.

If nothing else I learned about different options in doing pictures for the web. The reason it's blurry I made it quick to download. So once I changed the file to be quick to download, I also made it blurry---live and learn.

Now for the BAD NEWS, my wife was thoughtfull enough to get me an enexpensive digital camera--an Intel pocket pc camera-- great for me the way I treat stuff, if I tear it up no big deal. Well I've tried to load the software a bunch of times and it keeps locking up once MGI Photosuite 3 loads 18% of the way. Just my luck I've got a new toy and can't even play with it---I'm very sad---./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
Guess I'll have to trade it in on a more expensive model. She will love that one!!! Buy you get what you pay for.

The good news the kids are in toy heaven!!! Sure does overcome the camera ordeal to see them all so happy! I should have spent more money on the cardboard boxes and less on the toys, games, bikes and books./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Greetings from santa and his Kubota

Thomas the part of the picture with the trees was taken down south during a freezing rain storm. I downloaded off the web. Sure is a pretty picture though. Does that picture look like your place with the trees planted???

As with any year I've been blessed with overall good fortune and good health for my entire family and myself as well. I've got alot to be thankful for thats for sure. But yes santa has been good to me this year as well. Right now santas looking at a used Mott flail mower and a Danuser 18g chipper. Man it's hard to fit that stuff down the chimney./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Greetings from santa and his Kubota

gordon,
a word to the wise, MGI Photosuite associates all image files to its program. it doesn't even tell you during installation that it's about to cut off all image programs
but itself. it is useful, but intrusive.

Recipe for reindeer poop:

1. All the discards from making dinner salad (lettuce leaves, carrots, other greens, etc.)
2. Raw potato skins
3. Dry grass clippings

Place all ingredients into food processor and hit "puree".
Add just enough water until mixture has the consistency of paste.
Form into marble-sized balls and place carefully on a plate.

When finished, dump entire plateful of holiday doo-doo on front porch near the "Santa's reindeer feeding place".
Let sit until daughter checks on feeding dishes in the morning.

It worked great! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My girl took one look and came running back into the house to announce that Santa's reindeer had left us a "present".

Harv,

What a guy!!! Thats one you will live with from now until forever, it will be "Remember the year that Dad........."

Good Job Harv/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My link times out before I can download your card, so I'll have to wait until I get back at work to see it. Sounds like you did as well on it as the Reindeer poop.

Happy Holidays to you and yours

Re: Greetings from santa and his Kubota

Thank you very much for the info on Photosuite. I didn't know that, so maybe that was a blessing in disguise. Guess my computer might be smarter than I give it credit for. It was looking out for my best interests and I was cussing it for not loading the software.
After hearing what you said the camera is going back!!!
Thanks for the information!!!

Four bikes!!??? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I forgot you had a small herd of your own. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Hope you survived the night.

It's a real trick, isn't it? Ya gotta wait 'til the kids are asleep before you can start your Santa stuff, but on Christmas Eve they're just too excited to sleep at all. My 3-year old son was totally wired until almost 11pm when he finally passed out. My 8-year old daughter tried to do the right thing by going to bed at 9. By 9:30 she was up and about again, too full of anticipation to nod off. She tried again at 10, but when I peeked in at 11, she was still awake. I felt sorry for her, but sorrier for myself 'cuz I knew I had a lot to do before I could go to bed. It was almost midnight before I felt safe to put on my Santa shoes and get to work. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Glad you got some feedback on your new camera and software, 'cuz I have no knowledge of either.

Oh, and a footnote on the reindeer poop -- the only reason I had to make it from scratch is because I forgot to bring some of the real stuff home on my last trip to the property.

Am I the only one who dreams up this kind of stuff? /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif For the last several years I've added little touches, like big ashen bootprints on the hearth, a few long white hairs next to the cookie plate, "special" paper and bows that only Santa uses, etc.

I remember when Christmas was a magical time in my childhood, and now I'm doing everything I can to make it magical for my own kids. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Greetings from santa and his Kubota

Harv here is one if the Kids are bad. Attach this note to their stocking on the mantle:

I've made my list,and
checked it twice. I soon found out,
you haven't been nice.
So,since coal's so expensive,
here's the scoop.........
I'VE FILLED YOUR STOCKING
WITH SNOWMAN POOP!!!!!
Better luck next year,
Love,Santa

It's a stocking full of marshmallows---kids just didn't get the same kick out of it as I did last year!!!

Yea I got to bed at around 3:30 had to get up 7:00 to go feed, water, clean the stalls on the neighbors race horses. He went out of town for a couple of days and left me in charge of the poop patrol so Harv if I would have known what you had up your sleeve I could have e-mailed you some.

Harv,
Those cards and tree's are great! I like the way you even got a Farmall in there! Great job!

Say, How hard was that compared to the old days of ascii character animation :)

Glad everyone liked it, but I can't take credit for any of the technical development. I just received it and passed it on.

Harv,

I had to wait until I returned to work to look at your card, but well worth it. It had something for everyone./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I'm sure the "A" was mine and that it was an "A"

Thanks Al

Al (Mr. Twinkle Toes) -

If you say it was yours then of course it was yours. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

With the exception of the famous Chalkley machine, all the tractors in the cast were intended to be those of anyone whose tractor resembled the drawing. Truth be told, the actual model for the FarmAll was unwittingly submitted by Will Kazez when he posted this picture.

Haven't heard from him lately -- you still out there, Will?

I also had to wait until I returned to school to view your card. Laughed so hard, one question when I tried to store the card all I got was the background. How did you do this?? It had to take time, did you do it frame by frame or did you use java? Tried to look at the source file but the network people at the school limits what we can use . Very nice job.

Dan -

You probably saved the file okay (should be almost 800Kb), but you need the right software to view it.

It's a plain old (albeit large) animated gif. Try opening it with your browser.

I didn't have a script when I started, so it just sort of evolved from the original 50 frames to the final 493. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
