Apparently the premiums are to high.:D

If they did have such colonies, you can bet only the super rich would get off anyway. We are doomed I say, doomed!!:confused2:

The super rich, and their servants. Who'd want to live beside that lot, anyways? Better to be obliterated by the asteroid, I say.

Can you believe it ? My grand daughter just walked over from next door, she is out of school now, just finished the 6th grade and is a great student in all advanced placement classes. She looked at me and said she watched a movie at school on global warming and after the film they were told their grandchildren would be the last human beings on Earth..! I am outraged..can you imagine putting this kind of thought into a young 12 yr. old mind..? How sick is that..? Something has to be done to stop this kind of brainwashing of our young with bad science. We could end up with a so what generation..that figures everything will die anyway..Of course I told her that was false and that the Earth would always cleanse itself and we were working on better ways to handle any pollution...

Yeah, I can believe that.
Figure 25 years per generation (an arbitrary, but reasonable assumption).
She may have a child say in another 12 or 13 years, add 25 to that for a rough estimate of when she might be a Grandma, so 37 or 38 years from now... ???
Perhaps 40 ???
Add 20 or 25 years for that generation to start producing - will they ?
2070~2075.

Quite possible that by then we will have cooked the planet to a temperature at which we can no longer breed. {IMO, etc.}
It all depends where you think the knee of the curve is, but I suspect that there is one and some believe that we are already past it.
The biggest problem with this is that we do not directly perceive the change, indirectly we see it on TV, ice saps and glaciers melting, etc. but, as evidenced by comments such as "February was cold" we don't perceive that the planet as a whole is warming up.
Ahh yes, there is "air conditioning" for the privileged few.
There comes a point at which the "worker bees" can no longer go out to harvest the fuel for that - or the food for themselves or anyone else.
What food ?
You may well ask (-:

It isn't just US that won't evolve fast enough to adapt to change, it is the whole food web (not "chain").
======================================================
A "so what ?" generation ?
Sure, mine believed "nookular annihilation" was imminent, so we didn't give much thought to anything about the "future" because we thought there wouldn't be any after THE BIG ONE - which was about to happen SOON.

It seems counterproductive to show a bunch of kids a film that they're the last generation and then expect them to do their homework. A lot of them are struggling with depression anyway because of the stupidity they've already been exposed to.

/ A Credible Global warming Scientist! #46
Reg - I would as you to please share the proven science you have to back up your frientening scenario.

I fear you missed the point, Do you think a 12 year old should be told this as fact ? even if there was proof, which there is not ?

Amen....my point exactly !!

What is really disturbing is there is no scientific proof where there is consensus to back any of these assertions up..If they keep teaching this we will have future generations which can be called the " Me & Now " generation since they see no future..Is that what we want ?

Have you seen the movie first hand? Maybe the statement was taken out of context. Even adults can misunderstand things sometimes. I think that with problems like that in the Gulf Coast, that pollution is indeed a real problem, and that we are actually far off in cleaning up such polution. All one needs to do in Prince William Sound for instance, is turn over any rock on the shores, and there are still gross signs of oil on the beaches. Man fouls up the main two things we need to sustain life. Air and water, and we are light years away from solutions to "effectively" combat the results of polution. These days, the solution to polution, is a band aid or to sweep it under the carpet, as is the case with the dispersants the oil companies use on spilled oil. It don't actually clean it up, it just sinks it to the bottom, out of view, so another generation can deal with the end result. I'm not trying to stir the global warming debate or quell the propaganda in schools belief, but there could be more to the story than what you've been hearing. I would request a viewing of the movie, and see for yourself, before you get upset. Chances are, the world could end before she dies, if the 2012 declaration comes true!

Most kids anymore are so use to hearing so much BS, they don't believe anything anyway.

I would still just explain that like anything else they hear this is just one persons opinon and maybe they did say will instead of could. I don't know, I just don't get excited about stuff anymore. Maybe I should. If it were me I would just state the above and move on. Dwelling on it will make a kid really worry what the big deal is. But that is just me.

Gotta go can tomatoes, should have last night but was to beat up with all I have to to. I'm working on my to do list, just to much to do!

/ A Credible Global warming Scientist! #50
Beam me up Sotty ! You must be kidding ? LOL So you believe in the Mayan Calander ?

So what are you doing now if you think" chances are the world could end in 2012."..I mean, what's the point ? Is that what we should allow our children to be taught at any age with no scientific proof ?

/ A Credible Global warming Scientist! #51
I also think that children these days should be alarmed. The truth is, all one needs to do is watch the news. It don't take a downer death durge movie, to depress the children. The world already brings that to them!

Things are not good no matter what we say. This stuff is hanging over our heads and our kids. I fear the lack of food and water more then anything. Maybe that's why I'm such a horder of food.

The Coming Global Food Shortage
While you will never hear about it on the mainstream news, and while we can all walk into supermarkets and buy as much food as we want right now, the truth is that a massive global food shortage is coming. In fact, many scientists are now convinced that a horrific world famine is absolutely inevitable. Why? Well, as we will see below, it is a combination of things. World population is exploding at the same time that overfarming, overfishing and environmental degradation are all starting to catch up with us. The truth is that now is the time to start preparing. Now is the time to build up an emergency food supply. Now is the time to begin storing up food. Because a food shortage that is so horrible that most of us cannot even imagine it is on the way, and when it hits it is going to be incredibly painful.

It is now being projected that global demand for food will more than double over the next 50 years. Right now there are over 6 billion people on earth. Around 2040 or so there will be 9 billion people on earth. By the 2060s, there would be over 11 billion people on earth. So where in the world are we going to get the food to feed all of those people?

A global food shortage is coming. There is no possible way that the world can produce enough food for that many people under the current system.

Already 1 billion people in the world go to bed hungry every single night.

Already somewhere in the world someone starves to death every 3.6 seconds and 3/4 of them are children under the age of 5.

Already approximately a third of all children in the world under the age of five suffer from serious malnutrition.

And the bad news is that the world simply does not have enough water to grow much more food.

Just consider the following quote from IWMI director general Colin Chartres....

"Current estimates indicate that we will not have enough water to feed ourselves in 25 years time, by when the current food crisis may turn into a perpetual crisis."

Not only that, but because of overfarming and pollution, we are rapidly losing farm land. Today almost 25% of the world痴 farm land is affected by serious environmental degradation. That is up from 15% two decades ago.

In some of the biggest countries in the world the environmental situation is absolutely nightmarish.

For example, it is estimated by authorities that 75 percent of India's surface water is contaminated by human and agricultural waste. The truth is that there is over a billion people in India, but sanitation is still only just starting to be developed in many areas. So many people there just "use the toilet" wherever they can. In fact, according to a UN study on sanitation, far more people in India have access to a mobile phone than to a toilet.

But it just isn't places like India where rampant environmental degradation is a problem.

It is happening in the United States too.

It turns out that many big American cattle farms actually feed chicken manure to cattle because it is so inexpensive and because we produce far too much of it to properly dispose of as fertilizer.

So are you eating beef that is from cattle that were fed chicken manure every day?

How would you know?

Not only that, but the world cannot get much more food out of the oceans either. 29 percent of world fisheries are in a state of collapse according to Canadian scientist Boris Worm, and in the years ahead the world fishing industry may actually produce less food rather than more food.

But much more food will be needed in the years ahead.

The really sad thing is that we waste so much food right now. In developed countries we throw away anywhere from one-third to one-half of all food produced.

Considering the fact that so many people in the world are suffering from a lack of food, that is absolutely criminal.

In the years ahead we won't be wasting that much food. That is for certain. We will look back on these days when there was plenty of food with longing. These are still good times. Even though the world economy is starting to spin out of control, the truth is that we haven't seen anything yet. A devastating world economic collapse is on the way, and a global food shortage will follow shortly thereafter.

Are you ready?

Do you have any proof to back your statements up?

You continually bash the beef industry with some pretty outlandish comments.

I don't like feed lots nor the way chickens and hogs are raised. I can dig out evidence of investigations but honestly if I read to much of it and keep digging I will end up a vegetarian.

I know there are good scrupulous operaters. I think independent farmers are the best producers of our food, I do not trust the big industrial producers. I could very well be in error, but to much has come out in recent years that is really disturbing to me.

Easy, I raise my own.

But then again, I do have chickens running around so maybe they are eating chicken manure.

So, does the fact that NASA says the Earth is actually cooling, and the fact that the ice cap at the North Pole is actually increasing in size and that the latest issue of the Reader's Digest reports that the air is 41% cleaner, now, than it was in 1990, and that we now know that the global warming "scientists" were admittedly lying for the past ten years to cover up all the truths that were oh so inconvenient to their point of view, and that Al Gore's "hockey stick" computer model is designed to produce a "hockey stick" chart indicate that the Earth is rapidly warming, or not?

It's one thing to believe the sky is falling just because someone on TV told you so. It's another thing, entirely, to look for yourself, see that the sky is not only intact, but actually improving, and still fall for the ruse.

Don't believe everything you hear or read.

Sure he does, it'll come from the same page he took the whole statement from.

The Coming Global Food Shortage

That explains a lot.
