A Clutch Holder?

After two plus years I found someting new on my 3400HST. There is a spring loaded plunger that mates with a hook welded to the clutch peddle shaft just below the peddle. The function seems to be to hold the clutch disengaged without your foot. What is it for? Seems to be a tad dangerous to me.

You use it to hook the clutch pedal to keep it disengaged if you are going to store it for a long period. Keeps it from rusting up and freezing together.

^^ What Modn said. You don't need to read far to find members whos clutches have stuck together. Use it whenever your sits for long periods.

Could there be a problem if I use this "clutch holder" when I park the tractor? I use the tractor for a wk/ed and normally don't get to use the tractor again for 2-3 weeks, so I leave it with the clutch depressed. I know that's not what they had in mind as long term storage... could I be hurting it otherwise??

I can't believe there would be any problem with that IMHO. I personally can't believe i will ever use it.

My little L has a OEM Kubota P/n registered piece of wood to do this!!

2-3 weeks I wouldn't bother myself. Over the winter maybe, but who lets them sit that long? If it is stored in a wet, damp, high humidity area where the temps change fast and such, yes.

Yep, my B2710 was delivered with a block of wood for that purpose. I never used it because the tractor was always stored inside and never for any length of time without being used. But I sure remember the clutch sticking on that 1940 John Deere L that my Dad bought about 1951. So I suspect using something to hold the clutch pedal down is a good idea.
