The hydraulics on my tractor just recently quit working. I rebuilt the pump(had several broken springs). Once I got it primed, it worked great. I used it for 4 hrs., no problems. Now every time it sits for several hours, apparently it's losing prime. I can loosen the allen head screw on the pump until fluid starts flowing, then it works great again. Is there a check valve somewhere, that's not working?

While you had the pump apart, did you disassemble the nosepiece and inspect the shaft and seal? If not I suspect that's where your air/suction leak is coming from.

Yes, to the first reply. I changed everything. About the O rings, I've been thinking a lot about that this evening. When I was connecting the larger tube to the pump, I had a hard time getting all the way in. I'm thinking I need to pull it out and make sure I didn't damage that o ring

that's sounds odd you'd think if it was siphoning opening the screw would just help it do that and if you had a leak on suction line (larger tube) that pump should cavitate. doesn't hurt to check though.

Probably going to be Monday before I get a chance to look at it. Thanks for the replies. I'll keep you posted.
