Hi All,
Im looking at a 410C 4x4 with 5k hours, guy is asking $9,000, has owned it for a long time, second owner. Aside from the regular stuff (smoke, worn pins..etc) anything specifically I should be focusing on or testing prior to purchasing? Is 5k hours a lot? WHat should have been replaced by now and what will need to be replaced?

I will be using it around the house to clean up the property, do some grading and build a workshop.

thank you!

5000 hours on a 410c is not really a lot of hours if it was taken reasonable care of and wasn't abused. 10,000 hours is pretty easily attained without spending a fortune in repairs with proper maintenance. As you mentioned, smoking engine and worn pins are a couple of the first thing to look for. How easy engine starts, checking crankcase vapors from breather, checking engine oil and coolant for cross-contamination, checking trans/hydraulic oil for color (water contamination), and smell (burnt from overheating) are important also. If current owner has maintenance records, that is always a plus. Look at booms front and rear for prior breakage (welds). Breaks in these areas can be a sign of abuse and/or poor maintenance(lack of greasing). A properly welded/repaired break is not a deal breaker. It can be as strong or stronger than original if repaired properly.
